thats funny, when i lived in france, '02 to '06, it always seemed belgium was a wasteland, social and cultural Dead Zone

I'd say it's a very subtle country surrounded by some really strong personalities and I think it gets overlooked because of this. Socially and culturally fertile though imo. Right smack dab in the middle of it all.

Festival season in the summer is an embarrassment of riches. It is diverse and truly overwhelming. I Love Techno in the fall. Loads of concerts throughout the year as there are many acts stopping through en route from London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc, which are all a short train ride away.

Food wise, it's got a similar climate to the pac nw so there's excellent produce and artisan everything. Quite excellent in this regard.

And really good beer.
