L9 Overdub's workflow is a show killer for several users

So, any way to get permenant enabling on this button? Or am I the only one still missing live 8 overdub...

I got back in touch with ableton with this. They replied that they understand the problem and will add this to the list.
It goes back to off when you stop, and on top of this, you CAN'T save it's state !!!

Strongly agree! Bring back normal overdub

Live 11 is here still no change. Same stupid overdub record all stop all clips at the same time!!! So I perform live synths and I like to record the whole performance with a resample track but nope cant do it because as soon as I hit overdub midi the resample immediately stops recording and starts playback. That you ableton for ruining my workflow.

I perform a live looped show in Ableton Live where I need to be able to turn Midi overdubbing on and off. I have 9.0.4, and I cannot do this.

My problems are:

1) When I hit the "MIDI Overdub" button on my APC20 - half the time nothing happens. I need to actually go into live and click on the little Session Record icon. This is impossible to do when playing a performance.

2) When I do the above, audio tracks that are recording stop recording and stop looping. This is a SHOW KILLER. I cannot perform a show when tracks that are supposed to be recording all of a sudden stop.

Much like the sentiments of everybody on this thread - why did you guys remove the ability to toggle Midi Overdub? This is such a basic and integral feature - why remove it? It is also INCREDIBLY simple. One toggle to switch on one parameter within live. I'm a programmer - I know it isn't difficult to switch one boolean value from false to true and back again. Please bring it back as an option.

Ableton does not care about people who play instruments. It's just a clip launching program. Live 9 and push has ruined the company.

I don't get this necro, I downloaded Live 8's manual, it doesn't seem that different from 9 (or 11).

There is a "Start Playback with Record" toggle in Preferences > Record that seems to make the Session Record button behave like that MIDI Overdub button (seems others mentioned this back in 2013).
