Hello Mikeal,

here's an analogy with travelling (just came back from vacation)

The first time I travelled, even if it was just for a weekend around the corner, I had a suicase about 3 times my size and provisions for 6 months...
But the more I travelled, the lighter my backpack got.
I just threw away the uneeded stuff coz I know exactly what I need.

I think it's the same with music. As you said yourself, first, you have to go through carrying all the unneeded stuff, but then, as you get some maturity, you ditch most of your set up to keep only what you really need.

That being said, is it good to force this process and formulate rule? Dunno... I lrealy ike some of the ones you made up, but I feel a danger to become unflexible and boring after some time. Just like Dogma, actually...
Dogma's rules were wayyyy too self-conscient to be sincere. It was just a little trick pulled by ironic, post-modern Scandinavian hipsters. If you take a close look at their rules, they are full of totally absurd contradictions...

RiotNrrd: The structure isn't there to restrict creativity - it's there to focus it. - that's a fine statement IMHO. And combining that with the chocolate syrup of supster it then may go like this:

Restrictions are allways there in one way or another, but they may be biased to different levels. Like if you have a clear idea of where you are going, then the goal in itself is an important restriction, so in that case the process to get there may be full of freedoms, at least if you have some experience of how things work.
If on the other hand the goal is vague and not restrictive (yet), then it seems a good idea to set up some dogma fences from the start, to focus creativity on that part of the process, to help the goal emerging clearer, like adjusting a lens to be able to spot what you want to make a picture of.

Regarding me and supster at the stove: Yes, a good meal may be made in quite different ways. Some where made by mistakes, heard that on a ship the chef should prepare some potato in the oven with cream and onion and the ship was rolling, so an open jar with sardines fell over into the pot and that is now a part of the tradtional Swedish Christmas dinner, called "The temptation of Jansson ".
And the stove is more like the rendering part of a DAW, when the syrup is pored, it can't be removed unless you start things over. To much compression of the final mix may be like having added ten times more salt than is tasty...
So, like LoFi started it, the dinner analogy is more like a HOW would it be to make music that way. Will creativity benefit from it?

But in the end it's like some happy marriage of random and limitations in a nice flow having crazy and beautiful children...

Edit: Just remembered one of my home made sentenses: A river without banks will just flow out and die like a rain in the desert.

Now I'm spinning in self-oscillation, so I just want to bias a little more of the river analogy: A river without banks will just flow out and die like a rain in the desert.
Yes, my precious myself, but also: The harder the drive of the river flow, the harder it will carve itself through the landscape (= a clear goal or a strong inspiration). Without a hard flow, you'll better carve the banks out first and maybe put out some rocks and hills before you turn on the water.
