I don’t have a problem with her DJing.

I felt I had to jump in when things were going all “you have to respect…….” and “an inspiration to……..” Fuck, no. And fuck, no. Just because she’s been downgraded from America’s current favorite attention whore doesn’t mean she’s dripping with integrity now. :x
x-actly!

I simply don't understand why the situation is brought up here as something positive.

A thread making fun of the situation? Sure!
But a thread to give props to her? What gives?!

As you so nicely put it your2die4: a DJ has to play for the crowd that is present in the location. This here isn't the crowd for paying respect to PH for wanting to DJ.

Next tune! :x

You're wearing that Central Scrutinizer discussion-proctor derby again. You need to check that smelly thing at the hat-rack near the entrance, amigo. :|
don't assume I'm dead serious whenever I express strong opinions.

She's (and sis?) been djing for ages haven't they?
But yeah, god forbid dance music getting commercialized.

This has nothing to do with dance music getting commercialized. That happened a long time ago.

If DJs or dance music aren’t people’s thing then take your favorite genre of choice. Imagine if they took somebody of marginally dive bar skills, the only reason they are on stage is because of their privileged family name and a background in reality TV, and they made them the headliner at a festival.

Imagine that as a fan of the genre or possibly a producer who is trying to get established. It’s insulting and the vast majority of people who are going to check out the set probably are drunks who don’t care much for the genre and are just there to gawk at a celebrity.

Music festivals showcase the cream of the crop. Sure there are wild cards and novelties, but those acts aren’t made the headliner.

No one here argued against selling your product (music) and putting your face on the label, so people can better identify (with) your product.

What is argued against here, is wrapping a shit sandwich into a golden wrapper and then calling it a tasty burger.

If we wouldn't already be so far down on our road to Idiocracy, this would be called what it is: Fraud.
But as it stands, this just gets seen as more business as usual and the only thing we complain about, is when we get asked to hail that development as somehow good for more creativity in society because every idiot gets shown that indeed any idiot can do it :x

I think that in principle I hate the idea of her dj-ing; she doesn't represent any genuine involvement in the music scene; just a celebrity attempting to capitalize off an already existing culture, that she (more than likely) only previously experienced as an outsider.

But as she has little stake in any culture period aside from trash pop culture (ie; she doesn't reslly...do anything???), I don't think that she playing with a few cdj's over at the fest has any truly detrimental effect on the state of electronic music scene period. electronic music has long been commercially available to the masses; and as a result it is easily touchable by million dollar celebs.

I don't feel it's a bad thing overall; the existence of overdone tasteless shit is what makes underground and the real that much more important. To me everything exists in contrasts and balances; she exemplifies the worst part of the spectrum...at the very far end. But I understand the mere sight of her on stage trying to act hot shit pushing buttons will easily make anyone who's earned their stripes dj-ing want to throw a champagne bottle at her.
