Why the hell can't Live update straight to the latest version instead of one "point update" at a time (with me having to open & close Live in between)?

yeah. I gave up and just downloaded the main 9.2 installer.
Instead of sat there with my ear pressed to my hard disk enclosure trying to guess if Live was surreptitiously downloading a delta and what percentage it might be at. FFS what a joke system that is.

"hey let's specify a delta updater to update the app in a sleek and modern unobtrusive way!" - Great idea
"hey lets make it completely hidden from the user with no indication what is /isn't possibly happening" - not a great idea
"lets not implement [pause][cancel] buttons .. Who doesn't love an update downloaded right before you go to a gig, so it updates at the venue!"

You can disable automatic updates in the preferences. If you're getting ready for a gig, probably a good idea.

Since this is the nine point two thread

Is anyone experiencing funky knob reaction when using the APC40mkII in Live 9.2?

I'm running OS X 10.10.2, I've been in touch with Ableton support and they have been very helpful.

Basically, anything controlled by device control, pan, send will react in a strange way: with a smooth twist from 0-127 on any hard-mapped control you will get a smooth reaction in the software, with any pan, device control, or send level knob you will get a jumpy reaction and it takes about 1.5x as much of a twist to go from 0-127 or 127-0. I have then hard-mapped these same controls and they work fine, so it seems to be linked to any controls that are using the APC40mkII control surface script and not when re-mapped. This is only happening on the APC40mkII and I have tried other USB ports, cables, etc .. switching USB ports worked and it also worked when I switched back but after a restart and loading a set the problem is back and persisting.

But Ableton support said they haven't made any changes to the script in the newest release, but it worked fine on my 9.1.7 install so I am lost.

If you are having the same issue please let me know, it'd be nice to know I'm not the only one

but have you got yours on or off right now?
How would you know?
Where is the indicator of this perilous thing, is it obvious? Does it warn a person? Like ....

"Status : I AM DOWNLOADING NOW !!! (62%) would you like to pause this my friend? Is now a bad time for you? Just say, you are the boss of this application after all . [pause]"

or is the information provided about this function (the alert that this is active and is operating right now) displayed more like this

-guess-

Just my personal opinion, but I think that the latency display is great. You know what's more important than latency display? "Your app is downloading a new version, which will start an install process the next time you open this application"

i agree, it comes from the same mindset that designed the new Live pack system where there is no easy way to tell which pack versions you have installed.

on the auto-update front, almost every bit of software phones home these days, so i run an outbound connection blocker to help keep it all under control...

FWIW, it's a request that the beta testers have made before too, some way of seeing download progress. Maybe we'll see it added in the future.

Personally I don't use auto-updates unless I'm asked to test it for new Live versions. Otherwise it's easy enough for me to download the installer and run it manually.

I was assuming that the auto updates would download just the essentials (a patch) rather than the whole >900MB lump.

That's another thing the Abes have taken away - the choice of downloading just the exe from the Your Account page....

will I get the auto-update to 9.2

do I *have* to download 9.2 from my account on Ableton.com

?

anyone else having difficulty with Melodyne ?
Tried re-installing w/ the latest installer from celemony. LIVE crashes while scanning the VST folder. I restart LIVE and it tells me that it's disabling Melodyne specifically and then runs perfectly(all my other VSTs work nominal).

I just sent a support request to Jorg at Celemony but curious if anyone here had the same issue . . .

I did a pub gig and two weddings this weekend using 9.2. I fired it up Thursday for a light test and had my 9.1 laptop handy just in case. Everything worked flawlessly between the APC40 MKII, the M4L template for DJing, and Live itself. So far so good after 10 or so hours performing.
