Of course they are OK. Until you need more cores. And virtual core counts are not the same as real cores. Virtual is just a fancy queue of processes waiting for service.

Yeah, but even if new releases are announced I'd assume you can't get one before quite a bit later this summer. Such an announcement may of course put previous models on the second hand market, so you could benefit from that.

I believe there are PC laptops out there actually made for music production. Some of them might even be able to run macOS successfully. AFAIK they're not cheap however, but skimping on a music computer can become quite costly in the end.

I can also add that just focusing on the CPU is not sufficient. A real-time computer is a complete system where every part counts.

Just to mention some machines made for music there is the Rok Box Mobile Series from PC Audio Labs. I'm not recommending them as I haven't tried, but I believe these are good to analyze as people have made an effort to make something good for music. 6 cores in a laptop should make you interested…

Though MacBooks are not always presented during WWDC. Also, they like to torture us so we think such features as a touch screen stripe instead of function keys is a swell idea.

…the function keys are still there…you can configure the tb so that they show up...

Well, at least they don't fall off the display that quite a few report happens with the keyboard of these models.

...i don't know what people are doing with their mbp...really...there were some reports about a rattling sound when you heavily shake the mbp...i mean...who shakes a laptop???...
