i also get a lot of 'a's... i don't know where they're coming from...

it seems that the 'a's can be combined with DOWN successfully, but I don't know why i am getting 'a's instead of 'Z'.

Try using a lowercase z instead of uppercase. For some weird ASCII reason the numeric value for uppercase Z generates the keycode value for lowercase a.

So yeah, use all lowercase letters unless it is a "special word" like DOWN, in which case it needs to be all uppercase. That should take care of it. - Charlie

Hi Charlie,
I can't for the life of me get this to work.
Okay, so when I open up the utility, I see that the first row is 45 (num) is that a program change? CC or Midi note? How can you tell? the channel is 1, which is fine as all my midi events are set as channel one on my FCB. The third box is empty, unless of course I want to send a cc message.
So I aassume the 45 is read as a program change or a note if the 3rd box is empty?!
Okay so I want to send midi note 45 on Channel 1. I now click on the "plus sign to designate the keystroke I want to emulate. I want to have an "Undo" on my midi controller so I type in "z" (which is already there), and check the apple box. I then pilldown to my midi device which is a Firewire 410.
I leave the program running in the background so now when I hit the preset on my FCB it should function as if Im hitting the apple z command on my keyboard.
Except nothing is happening.
Im using the version 1.13, Live 5.03, an FCB1010 with the latest firmware.
What am I missing?

It works fine here. I use it to control a VJ app and video cameras from Live.

Version 0.82. I didn't know there was a Version 1.13.

A C2 (note 48) from mLAN Channel 5 sends a CTRL+a, etc...

Make sure you've assigned a MIDI input at the bottom of the screen (src). You need to do it every time you launch midiStroke. I sometimes forget that.

yep.

i did everything just like anyone else did.

but it still holds shift after a minute or two, and then you have to close the app or risk disaster :(

I'll try and take a look at this shift problem some more when I get back from a trip I'm currently on. There have been 3 or 4 complaints along this line, but nobody has been able to isolate what the problem is. I can't reproduce it. Considering midiStroke gets downloaded 200 - 300 times a month I'm tempted to say it's related to individual users configurations, but I'd obviously still like to fix it.

You can try downloading the version hambone has and see if that fixes anything:

Thanks for making this program and giving it to us. It is brillliant.

I mapped LEFT and RIGHT to two pedals on my FCB1010 which is great for selecting tracks, trouble is I can't find a way to toggle the arm button on the selected track.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, if there's not a keystroke to do it (and there's not one to record enable the currently selected track as far as I know) then midiStroke won't help.

I would look into Mackie Control emulation, or maybe try controlAid.
