I'm genuinely sorry to say that with 5.01 and 5.02 I've had pretty much the same experience as TimothyAllan. Most of the .als I've been working on are production jobs so we're taking plenty tracks with even more plug-ins :) Several of them seem to reach a stage where, not due to CPU constraints, the application just 'falls over' due to the the massively increased RAM, and when you run out of that it's paging file, demands.

Also noticing a big decrease in the performance of many of my softsynths - in some cases I'm still getting pops & clicks even after increasing the ASIO latency and the buffer settings.

I can load quite a few original project files, created & saved in v4 before taking them to 5, with NO problems. 5.02 does seem a bit slicker, despite still using 200Mb system memory compared to version 4's 40Mb, and I applaude the Abe's for getting so many fixes done so fast. I will be upping my RAM to 1.5Gb shortly but I'll think I'll be waiting a while before moving away from 4.14 in a professional situation as it's quite simply too resource hungry on the system for comfort.

XP Home SP1a, 2.6P4c, 512Mb DDR400, 120 internal SATA and 200Gb external firewire

Unfortunatly i say the same. I wish i saved a copy of my set in version 4 as a backup, but i didnt. Now I'm on tour and every time I play, it's like a lottery. I'm very stressed out

Hi Pheek,
strange, I played a lot of shows with Live 501 and had only minor issues,
not more then with any other x.0 Live version. Did you download Live 502?
This fixed a lot of bugs and might be the cure for your specific issues.
Apart from that, let us know what exactly still goes wrong for you.
(maybe after the tour)
Robert

I upgraded while in the middle of important project, didnt even have time to read, check anything, just contiunued working like with ver 4, the new features so obvious that I didnt have to use help even once. First 2 weeks later had time to check the manual and not so obvious new featuress. Live never crushed ever ( using for over a year, 8-12 hours daily). I never had Beta on my music partition, always test software on my internet partition, perhaps that is why dont have problems ever. Using XP with maxed tweaks, only 8 services running.

5.01 and .02 have both been rock solid, NO crashes, I also have a lean install with very few services running, no network, antivirus, etc. I'm even losing my old habit of saving every few minutes that I learned from back in the days of Cubase.

to be honest, i never experienced serious crashes (here i'm really gambling as i have a gig next sunday...).
minor issues yes, as robert stated.

my main problem is the follow action bug in 5.02.
thankfully i have 5.01 and using that...

fingers crossed...

After using 5.02 for a couple of days and still having around 1 crash per hour I realize that it's just as crappy as prior versions.

I had unreproducible crashes after:

select all in clip view
copy/paste
undo/redo
new in 5.02:moving tracks up/down

Again: Bestest L5 feature => recover from last undo.

Quo vadis Ableton?

Mine crashes also.. but in a strange way.

I have Live re-wired to Reason and when i go down to the kitchen to make some coffee and get some food I'll get back to the pc and Live will have crashed. It's no longer there... it vanishes.

It seems as though if you leave it running without doing anything it shuts itself down.

Not so upset at the moment as i can recover quickly.

I can't remember the last time 5 crashed for me. I think it has once or twice, but I really can't remember. Of course, I don't usually let my CPU meter go above 40% because I just use Live for sequencing external hardware.

AMD Sempron 2400+
512MB Ram
Digidesign M-Box, E-Mu 0404, generic onboard sound

Hasn't crashed, except with Guitar Rig, but that was a known issue.

Solid 5.0.2 with no crashes using it 6-8 hours a day. My main set is rewired and has 84 tracks and 70 scenes, sometimes with 8 audio tracks, up to 60 MIDI tracks, and various MIDI follow actions running.

Runs flawlessly, although curiously the CPU meter climbs 20-30% when crossfading, but settles after the crossfade. Thought it was something to do with the short time it's playing both tracks, but if I play both tracks on the same side, it doesn't do it.

live 5 crashing

Post by chupachups » Fri Oct 21, 2005 10:17 am

In fact, on my side , I am using a P4 with Windows 2000, no services, no network, no acpi, etc... and on live 4 .. I never got a crash.. on the new version of Live 5 .. hum , I got 2 crashes.

I installed the lastest patch 5.0.2.. for the moment it looks stable just some issue when dragging clip in the arrangement windows (very slow)...

My 2 cents.

how come live 5 was taken out of beta when a hefty chunk of the user-base were still experiencing problems ?
