good rhodes plugin?

we'll see. if and when i get the disc, i'll report back.
ok report:
after a real BASTARD of a time getting a working copy of their DVD ( i think the third one they sent actually was readable)
it sounds like, well in a word,
SHIT
the samples have a real quick decay, like they didn't let the notes ring
i mean FUCK it would be so much better not to sample every single key but to have the notes actually sustain. as it is it's essentially unusable IMO

Just remember too that real rhodes were meant to be played through amps (i think they were 'matched' to fender twins..but i might be wrong)
so bang a guitar rig or one of the nifty amp racks in 6 after your sample player and it might be better for you. Most of the VI rhodes's I've used are just sampled out of the output.
That said, y'all should just hunt around for a cheap rhodes. They're only going to get more expensive! I've got a lovely mark 1 88 studio, and nothing can beat it. It's more the action of the the thing that really works for me...you play it differently than you would a keyboard.
anyway, just my 2c.

I was under the impression Herbie uses and endorses Lounge Lizard, or at least did so a few years back.mcconaghy wrote:My fave is the EVP88 sent through Logic's Guitar Amp plugin set to one of the US Amp presets - if it's good enough for Herbie Hancock, it's good enough for me.

As an owner of a real Rhodes and proficient keyboard player, I have to say that the Scarbee 73 is the real deal 12 velocity layers on each key as well as release samples. You do need a sampler, but it is amazing. Play it with weighted keys. Run it through a nice compressor some saturator for some grit and you won't miss the real thing. Lounge Lizard, Mr. Ray, Elektrik piano, are all pretty crappy to my ears. The only other sampled rhodes I like is the one in Colossus, its pretty nice too.
