I have a FW Solo, and it works ok. That said, I have to have it to run Pro Tools M-Powered, which I also don't like but am in the middle of a project that requires it. It's becoming an AVID world for a lot of people using M-Audio, P-Tools, and Live. I like Live but I mostly use it to edit and pre-mix certain rythm tracks, it's not a compositional or performance tool for me. All other things being equal, I do think the sound of M-Audio interfaces is not very clear. I can say that MOTU 828's and RME Multifaces have them handily beat, at least to my ears. I use an 828 (mk 1) for most multi-track stuff and it still sounds better than the FW Solo, even though it's much older.
