That was debunked in Mythbusters last season (awesome show on Discovery, at least if your a tech/science nerd like me). They actually set up serious experiments to prove it is absolutely impossible .

The beats are cold and unmoving, which is where this sad computer-in-a-box gets shown up as being non-human, cold and without any warmth to it's groove.
You can't teach a computer to feel the funk.
Though clearly the rules of a chromium scale can be programmed, as some of the chord movements are quite pleasant.
Can you imagine James Brown jamming with those beats.

I beg to differ, my friend.
I could kill a human in the dutch oven every morning.

I reckon you could
there's som kind of mathematical formula behind just about everthing - meaning you can break down just about anything into averages and I reckon a computer could figure out exactly what funk is and how to put it into a mix

Get a gas chromatograph and test one of my farts.... the computer will figure out what real funk is.

I challenge anyone to call the Ableton forum search function shit, you just have to understand it is more of an esoteric 'karma dice' game of chance type thing that takes you on tangents that you have to just go with...you will be thankful

that picture of the device looks suspiciously photoshopped

Anybody who's worth his salt as a producer can make a fart sound good!! One of my best friend's who's a hiphop producer used to say something to that effect...
that's 2 posts in a row where you've said what I was going to say - first about Jazz being just as feasible, 2nd about using a fart - or any sound source
one of the best bass lines I have in a track was me going "uuurrrggghhmmmmpphhh" into a crappy set of headphones plugged into a mic input then totally messed up with just live and it's FX - and that was in Live 3
+1
Anymore, this is my exclusive method for creating the sounds for my tracks. I just don't get excited by searching through sample libraries anymore. Why not just start by mimicking the sound in your head with something around the house and go from there? Good times

After laughing my ass off at the direction this thread took...I'm going to be a spoilsport and jump back to the subject.
At first I thought the example track was pretty stupid. But I left it play as I was reading the thread and after about 5 minutes I found that I was sort of digging it. It's a pretty long mp3 -- over 11:00 apparently.
But I'm always fascinated with generative stuff, from Eno to Koan to monolake to Buddha Machine. Not to neglect Angstrom's cool examples as well.
For my taste I always need to bring my generative stuff into Live and give it a structure and arrangement. But that's just me.

FUSE..you are a Orlando person, you may appreciate this.
I was at Firestone and had to duece really bad. I mean to where I had to end the night and go home. So instead, I powerwalked all the way to St. James Cathedral which was open for a night service and "baptized" that baby the hard way.
Still one of my favorite bombings.
I also remember being on tour and having to duece in truck stops because you can't do it in a bus. I was taking ephedra at the time and went in there around 6am for a quick morning banger. Anyway, the place was loaded with filthy truckers doing their morning dumps, Mine smelt so bad they started screaming at me for what I was doing. I laughed so much I almost vomited.
