We're running vista at home right now and there's definately some issues with it. But overall, it looks great and runs great. But it is a CPU hog. I need to upgrade my RAM before it runs right.

The interface looks like it was wholesale lifted right from the OSX playbook. Imitation is the best form of flattery, I suppose.

But, yeah, if people have to start paying for Vista, I think you'll see Mac sales skyrocket and/or Linux or alternative OS's hitting the market. Most consumers don't expect to have to pay for the OS. It's never been that way, at least to most people's understanding. OS's are always bundled. Is Microsoft changing this or am I just misunderstanding?

Wasn't Google coming out with "Cubes" or some OS?

But is this not already the Mac way? All updates are paid updates, you only get the initial one "free".

Just more imitation, no?

I thought I heard that Vista wasn't coming bundled on new computers. That can't be right though, as that was Microsoft's secret to success.

But most people I know with macs upgraded free to new OSX versions b/c there's no key. Since OSX only works on Macs, Apple must assume that you've already given them money for the hardware so they don't worry about pirated OSX software. I've been handed Tiger several times, and given it away even more (free!).
