those aren't the "kind of thing" my post referred to. I was referring to the idea that a poster on a music software forum might "get disappeared" for posting a link to a video that's critical of U.S. foreign policy. That's just too laughable to even be considered. U.S. foreign policy is so reviled at this point that fully 98% of all web pages, posts, emails, videos, animations, blogs, etchings, doodles, are critical of it and the current administration. I guess we don't hear about all the related disappearances because those jack-booted thugs are just so thorough at their jobs, eh? (come to think of it, though.. what DID become of Michael Moore?)

It's a species of blind stupidity to think that the citizenry at large is being denied the right of free speech. That sort of thing DOES happen in wholesale quantities under other sorts of regimes, however.

The measures you cite--though I don't know how thoroughly you understand their limits--are meant to help us fight an enemy that's out to destroy us. Are those measures the optimal solution? Maybe, maybe not. They still beat living under Sharia in my book.

Stanch the paranoia, dudes. Try the decaf.

Well yes, I agree, he's being paranoid. at the moment no-one is going to get erased for a post on an internet forum. The problem is however that laws in the US are being changed to allow the government power to do this kind of thing. You think that is OK???
I disagree with the premise. The US is not passing laws that would allow them to do this kind of thing.
Well you are wrong, unforunately.

If someone in the government decides you are a threat you can be secretly flown around the world and kept and tortured in a secret prison. You would have not possible way of communicating with anyone, or appealing against what is happening. They wouldn't even need to explain to you what you have done wrong. This is possible NOW.

Funny, as you just replied to my post saying exactly the opposite and that it was the premise and not the exact circumstances you were disagreeing with. You can't hold two different points of view. At least not in the same thread...

See my reply above.

Unfortunately, the legal groundwork is pretty much completely laid out for the eventual transition into a something quite different than what we are used to.

People are more concerned with drinking beer, getting laid, eating McDonalds, watching football, and fucking off on the internet to even care. By the time the general American public realizes the severity of the situation, it will be too late.

Time will tell the damage that has been done, much like a cancer that is invisible and undetectable to it's host for sometimes years before it begins to make it's presence known. The whole situation just completely baffles me.
Sounds to me you just need to grow some balls.

OK adonis I can agree to some degree, but simple fact is the FBI was stripped of a large amount of ability to police people here in the states because they killed the leader of the Black Panther movement in his bed..... think about that, dude was sleeping... They have all that power back now.

Our rights have been slowly taken from us ever since Wacko texas with those David Koresh weirdos, at this point it's all crap. We can't even protest without literally being caged in....
the government pretty much does what it wants to. Look at local politics here, remeber how we voted against the Seahawks stadium? They simply overturned popular vote, and we taxpayers did nothing.

I'm not going to live my life like a paranoid, but it's no joke that we are heading backwards in history. :?

wha? Here's the premise I was disagreeing with: People can be whisked away by the secret police for posting a link on the Ableton forum to a video that offends the current administration.

I still disagree with that premise.

What have I said that's contradictory?

Hmmm. Isn't a brick wall a stationary object? So can it actually "hit" anything?

You have to understand the big picture. We are coming into the period known as "Peak Oil". When this happens, there are going to be drastic changes to everyone's life that will be quite unfavorable. The U.S. government is preparing for this, apparently, while keeping the truth from the general public, because this is likely the only option in their view. The major events of the past 5 years are all leading up to something no one wants, but is something which cannot be averted. The ends will have justified the means once the reality becomes apparent, including the sacrifice of so many lives, because the life of every single person on the planet will be at stake. You can deny the reality, but it is still a reality. You can ignore it, for now.......might as well enjoy life while you can.

Can you stop talking out of your ass? Is it possible? You really have a craft for writing long-winded passages that hold absolutely no ground.

Thanks for keeping those of us in the "general public" informed, Nostradamus. We owe ya big time.
