Well said. I actually recently sold my BCR because:
1. I only really wanted the top 8 encoders.
2. It felt so cheap, I was always worried about breaking the knobs live.
I guess you can see why I'm so excited by the Kenton.

On my life - I was So excited about this peice of kit. But the price is way to high.
I'm gutted.
But I might still get it - what are credit cards for, eh?

ahhhh jesus christ. i was so looking forward to this, it's pretty much exactly what i want from a controller. every time i use something m-audio i feel like i'm going to break it. and the form factor is excellent - put your laptop, interface and that in your bag and still have room for an SLR. but...
250 quid????? is someone smoking crack? that's what i paid for my monome 40h (i know it's apples and oranges).
on a less ranty, more constructive note, @Tarekith - what's the problem with the build of the recent bitstreams? any links? cheers.

sorry to go on - other companies take note. people are crying out for something like this - four pages of posts about four hours? you can't buy that kind of buzz.

Sent to Kenton as a "feature request" for their killamix-mini prototype.
M. Bréqs wrote:Reference suggestions for the Killamix Mini prototype; I would recommend that the prototype's 9 buttons not be "radio" style buttons - that is, more than one should be able to be active at the same time.
There should be an option to have each button activate a bank of 9 CC messages (1 for each knob). Thus, with the touch of a button, you could activate 9 new CC messages to be output. However, with more than one button pressed at the same time, the unit should be able to select more than one bank of CC messages at the same time. That is, with two buttons pressed, each knob should transmit two CC messages as it is turned, each scaling to the last known value (or perhaps a hookup mode).
This would be useful for assigning each knob a different function in a single channel strip - for instance, the 9 knobs could be for 4 eqs, 3 send effects, 1 pan and 1 volume. Then, with two buttons pressed, you could adjust the pan of two channels simultaneously. With three, you could adjust the send value for three channels to the same send effect.
Lastly, you should be able to set the polarity of each knob as positive or negative, individually for each bank - that is, it would be wonderful to press two buttons (activating two banks), and have one knob diminish a parameter of one channel at the same time raising a parameter on the other. DJs would find this quite useful for low cut EQs. Producers could find this quite useful for recording mixer movements within applications such as Ableton Live, where the relative movement of multiple parameters occurs at exactly the same time in the arrangement.
I know that Live 6 renders this somewhat academic, but really, not everybody is using 6 yet and it would be a neato feature. Plus, you could DYNAMICALLY assign multiple CC messages to the knobs this way, with Live 6 you have to hit midi learn and enter a different mode to change midi mappings. Dynamic CC message (including multiple CCs) is much easier in a performance.
If they implement this feature request, I would pay $400+ for it easily.

in size and portability and build, this is what i've been itching for...
i remember seeing the prototype thread.
however, i'm in the same boat cost-wise....too damn expensive.
brilliant suggestions, m breqs.....

The size is key. I like seeing a mfr cite small footprint as a selling point, it doesn't seem to have occurred to many.
It'll be cool in front of a laptop, and personally, I'll probably figure out some way to strap it to a mic stand for rock gigs.

They really need to say something about that DJ controller now.
"Killamix DJ."
Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue like "Rane Empath" or "Xone 3D," but whatever. I can always put some tape over the logo.
I really hope they're doing 3 ccontroller schemes total: Killamix, modular Killamix DJ with all the cadillac features of the prototype and then some, and then Danny Mac's DM01 as the entry level my-mom-bought-it-for-me Torq competitor.

If it's non-programmable I hope they set the MIDI map up not to conflict with the Faderfoxes/Xone 3D/DJM 800/etc. Just have to wait & see.

Aah, I remember watching an old video for that like a year ago.
Looks pretty neat. I like the simplicity.

I had a Kenton Control Freak a while back and it is very solid metal, but the sliders were the crappiest I have ever used, very stiff and different action from one to the next....
