I think this is really cool myself, surprised people here aren't reading between the lines from a musician's point of view.



It's the first portable device with a multi-touch screen.

It runs OSX.

If you can't see the possibilities here, please continue complaining.



Oh yeah, I use Cingular now (since they were CellOne actually) and have no problems with them.

Some people would complain if you hung 'em with a new rope...

Seriously, though, I'm not sure it's even as "OS X" as they say it is. If those apps are just standard widgets, all they really need is WebCore, which Nokia already use for their smartphone browsers. OS X is portable, so they've could've moved it, but from a performance perspective, I doubt they will have done so... They just made it look like it.

What will make or break it for the geeks, I think, is 3rd party apps. As a fashion accessory, I think it's pretty much a gived that they'll sell a couple.

As for going with Cingular, I think they had to go with one service provider, as the voice mail-as-e-mail thing needs support from there, so...

Can you imagine what the third party Griffins, Belkins, etc. etc. are p-lanning on coming up with? The accesories for this thing are going to be insane!

Sold the stock in 1991? Yeah, I don';t think anyone who bought stock in Apple during the 80's would have anticipated anything like the imac taking off let alone the ipod and now iphone. If the stock increased by over 1000% since that time, can you imagine what our bank accoutns would look like now?

The processor hasn't been selected. Since OSX is built on FreeBSD, it's easy to port it to a wide number of platforms (as already show by apple).

I should also mention that I did some extra poking around in Xcode 3.0 and the leopard beta that I've got, and there are no tools at all for porting to other architectures, other than PPC and x86 (though 64 bit support seems to have been improved). It's clear that apple doesn't want to make tihs information public yet, for whatever reason.

I'll put down a 10$ bet on it being an ARM device, though. Just seems like the natural choice.

Looks like you are the idiot, Ms. Genshi. Read the thread title: Never said I didn't like the iPhone. I never said anything that wasn't true and straight from Jobs mouth. As far as "bashing" goes, I think I have a very valid point in their choosing to partner with anyone. If they partnered with T-Mobile, my service, I would think it incredibly foolish as well. I love the product. I think it is possibly the biggest technical innovation since the laptop (iPods, after all, eren't really very necessary, just really cool). But a spade is a spade. Even Jobs is wrong from time to time (multi-button mice, PDAs) as well as right (GUI design, iPods, UNIX kernel-based OS).

He got the product very right this time. Way right.

He got the "Partnership" part wrong. WAY wrong.

This is a very innovative device but Jobs has overlooked one huge marketing detail... this is gonna be an iPod killer! Who's gonna pay $400 for an iPod Video now?

People who need more than 8 gigs of memory space.

I am kind of surprised that they didn't drop a wide screen, multitouch iPod-only capable unit. Folks have been screaming for that one for a long time. Kind of makes the Zune (gag) look a bit nicer . I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
