It's one thing if you want to go bankrupt trying to be the next best thing musically. It's a whole different story when you drag loved ones into a hole with you. I don't regret anything I said in this thread, and I still believe that all the money in the world won't help his music at all.

I guarantee that if this was a female posting the exact same post and her boyfriend loaned her the money most of you would be politely explaining every single aspect of music and Ableton while wanting to hold her hand and stroke her hair. And not one of you would go to her myspace page and come back posting that her music is crap.

This board sometimes gets really ugly when it doesn't have to.

despite your bad opinion on my anti-music is the best compliment it would gain, you are really sweet in that nice trial about protecting my girlfriend from the bad bad radib. really sweet. but what a about that, she´s a really characteristic person who can decide herself. and she even likes the way i´m doing it all. whats so hard to not get that? incredible. you obviously think all females are just helpless shapes (like you?).

and to sum it up: if there is smething poor out there in being, then that kind of aggressive jealousy.

If you have $4,000 worth of gear in only 2 years, you're way ahead in the gear department than most of us here.... For the first 2 years I didn't have a computer, had to go to a friend's house, and I took audio recording classes, read books on recording... basically studied my ass off without owning any gear. Then I bought a crap computer and rocked the cheap software... eventually moved up after 8 years.

However, one thing I've learned is: You learn better lessons on crap gear than on expensive stuff. I learned more on my own tooling around with cheap gear than I did in a pro studio playing safe with expensive gear. The studio was great, but it was basic techniques and not f*cking sound up to see what the possibilities were. So stop complaining and learn more.

And get a credit card if you really need to borrow... or/and a better job.

Check out Cascade Microphones for a good cheaper mic. You also can't go wrong with a SM57... You can get really good preamps for less than a grand, and then an RME card and you are good to go.. Get a UAD card for great dynamics processing, or Voxengo, or Kjaerhus are also great for the price. And there are some GREAT freeware apps out there if you take the time to research.

You are in a time when making quality recordings is the easiest it's ever been. 10 years ago you'd have to pay WAY more to get a good recording... Now there are so many possibilties, and it's way cheaper.

I made an album using nothing but freeware and I got a good amount of local airplay, sold some CDs, some write-ups in local papers, live performances on the radio, and some gigs. I did this with almost no self-promotion and I certainly didn't spend any money. Sure....it's not the big-time or anything...but it was good enough for me to have fun and I proved to myself that it's not always about money.

One thing I didn't do.........

You're still an asshole. Anyway you try to spin it, you are a pathetic, sniveling, whining, broke asshole.

Dont get into the gear madness. Specially when you are interested in creative and unconventional. All you need is recording device, could be any digital recorder and a mic. The rest ? You must be like a kid with a hammer to whom everything looks like a nail! Just that for you it is about instrument, your kitchen bathroom, junkyard....anything and everything can be used musically. No need to spend 2000 Euro on Spectatronics newest 5000 Giga megahypersample collection
No need to compromise quality once you got your ideas together hire a U 87 with preamp or go to a studio. You are in Germany ? Highest density of well equipped studios with no clients. Instead of becoming victim of this country obsession with gear ( here kids in a village band have stuff in garages that some of top notch NYC musicians will never afford or care to purchase) take advantage of it, easiest place on the planet to get good studio cheap.
All those "musicians" /salesmen in music stores will tell you what you must have and if you dont "you cant even think of doing anything" .......and will eagerly tell you what they have in their home studios. And what they get out of it ? mostly nothing, since they wont have time anyway their heads are fucked from demoing Britney Spears songs on Yamahas Tyros 8 hours a day. When they get home, have some food, drink watch TV and go to sleep to get early enough to work, while their gear collects dust. So you wanna be gear collector like them or an artist ?
Whatever your aim, your audience be, your girlfriend, grandmother, dozen drunkards in a bar or Grammy Committee - all that really counts is YOU, your creativity, IDEAS. You are to tell an interesting story, if the story is fascinating who cares, notices the color of your shirt, all that counts is the content.

you always seek for me in the extremes, thats senseless. i´m not a gear collector at all, i hate havibng too much stuff around, i´m a minimalist. but i love quality amd characteristic, and a bit of decadence when it comes of sound itself.

my whole setup of the last 1,5 years: a 2000ghz pc with 1gig ram, a 400 dollar mic, a 600 dollar interface, a 400 dollar eguitar, a 200 dollar acoustic guitar, a dopefer pocket dial for 120 dollar, a microkontrol keys for 400 dollars. i can let run run 4 tracks at once, voice, guitar, simpler, operator, all going through 3-4 plugins. then the pc is flattering.

so you can´t say i need too much. but for my next stuff i want to have a fuller sound, more variations. say 7 tracks, like reasons redrum coming in, and one with ms 20. and a better quality of the voice, cause i want to record a nice female one too, which would be fucked down by that microphone. result?

a new computer who could do it: 1000 dollars. the ms-20 controller (cause due to a bug i can´t control it in live with the mouse): 150 dollars. a new mic, 2000 dollars (cause i tried a 800 dollar mic and it still sounds not well). i will sell the microkorg and the old mic, but won´t get more than a third of the original price.

i´m disbaled, so i can´t work for money in society. they pay me about 300 dollars for all that i need besides the rent of the flat. that makes 10 dollars a day for food, electricity, clothes and all other stuff. now tell me your masterplans again, please.

I'm listening to your music now, I quite like it to be honest. Reminds me of Suicide, with maybe just a hint of Radio Head and NIN.

I guess you missed my point.
True,, there is no way around it, first you must get that 2000 $ mic, but will it work without Neve ? could settle for trident mixer maybe,...
sorry, I got to get back to work.........

Right on, the Suicide influence is what stands out the most to me. Radio Head and NIN more of an undertone.

I listened to all of 'em, nice stuff man.
