StJohn, at a local command prompt type 'telnet localhost'. You should then see 'Welcome to the Ableton Live Pynthon Interpreter...'

where is my mind?

This really is unbelievably cool, I might have to cancel my weekend in Vegas to stay home and program code.

stjohn wrote:hi all, this sounds brilliant thanks!!

ive installed pythos 2.2.3, copied it into the Midi resources, and installed a demo of absolute telnet..

im new to telnet so im unsure of how to connect to localhost 23.

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks all

:D
By default telnet wants to connect to port 23, so you just need to use the start menu to get to a 'run' prompt, then 'telnet localhost' -- should be that simple.

If you are unable to get a connection, verify that you have selected 'LiveTelnet' in the MIDI / Sync preferences tab under Ableton Live.

Alternatively your windows firewall or personal firewall may be blocking connections. If you still have problems let me know.

Python gurus - how well would the monome integrate into all this?

This has to be the fastest thread ever.

Best thread ever?

Not sure about the monome, but literally anything is possible. I've sent them mail to point them to our project. If they don't have the time/inclination to implement something themselves, I'm sure someone will be able to.

The monome uses an FTDI USB interface chip, which uses the standard windows drivers, if that helps. I don't own one yet but it seems they're fairly plug and play. Thanks for closing the loop with them.

Sounds like you've got a bit of a mixup going on. Here's how to fix it.

1. Open an explorer folder window, goto C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 6.0.7\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts\

Note: 6.0.7 is the latest version, if you've got an older version substitute in your correct version.

2. Copy the LiveTelnet and LiveOSC folders into the 'MIDI Remote Scripts' folder. If you've got 'Python22' in there, move it out to C:\Python22

3. Start Ableton Live, open your preferences window, select the MIDI / Sync tab.

4. On the top of the window you should see 'Remote Surfaces' with 5 pulldown menus that show a list of remote midi devices you can 'assign' to one of the 5 slots. Select 'LiveTelnet'.

5. Now from start menu, run 'telnet localhost'

That better?

(Thanks for all the good questions to everyone btw, I'll be updating the faq with lots of content tonight!!)

If 'standard windows drivers' == MIDI device, then yes. Monome will work fine with a MIDI Remote Script.

how is this useful to people that dont have controllers that need OSC or clip names etc?

I have a clunky old UC33e and that's all

is there any big fun thing you can do with it that I couldnt before?
