Great frickin movie. I'll see it again for sure.

I was much too old for Transformers toys and toons when they came out. My first robot hard-on was with Gigantor. No toy believe it or not, but a clear lineage in my o.

i had a 5 year old sitting behind me narrating the whole thing. "look dad its optimus prime" "look dad he punched him" "look dad he fell" "look dad a robot" and on and on

what I wouldn't give to sound design a movie like that

one reason I've lost all interest in a full time audio career really - I bet you have to wait for someone to die to get a gig like that - not the type of Job people would leave, and not many to go round :(

ha. seriously it was a good movie. i feel you have to take the good with the bad. my friend was too much of a critic to realize how good it was. who cares about bad acting when you have 35ft robots beating the shit out of each other! haha.

but yea, starscream didn't die...i totally smell sequel. they could make a really great sequel from this, since the cube story is done. megatron could be even more badass, and of course STARSCREAM!

i loved the movie.

i've been debating whether or not to go see it since i heard about it last year!

as a kid i worked an entire summer mowing lawns and doing yard work for anyone i could so i could buy the VHS tape (which i still have) of the original cartoon movie when it came out (this is way before VHS tapes were priced to be sold, when they were intended to be sold to video stores to rent out, my copy cost something like $80!)

i even owned the soundtrack of the original movie, which made "Boogie Nights" even more awesome for me when i heard "dirk diggler" singing "you've got the touch" i imagined that the song i rocked out to as a stupid kid was actually sung by a coked up pornstar...maybe "stan bush" was one.

anyway, the sound design mention early in this thread might be a swaying factor. THat was one of my favorite parts of the most recent star wars films...but michael bay? wow, i've never paid money to see one of his movies.

i guess we can all get even more opinionated as a sequel has been announced for 2009.

as well as an "untitled friday the 13th sequel" also produced or directed by Bay.

i seen it last night.
i think it SUCKED!!!
there was to much camera shaking, i could never get a good look at anything because of it.
this asshole that made the movie ruined it.
the story sucked the camera sucked and there was to much crap about the army and the goverment.
it was the same old tired plot that needs to be put to rest.
plot- something hacks into the government computers (been done) something is going to destroy earth (been done) cameras shake (been done )
old man says the phrase "my god!" in a laughable serious voice.
bad guys lose the earth is saved.

Have you ever seen the cartoon?

Seriously, there is nothing to live up to. Transformers (old school) was just one long commercial to sell toys. I think the movie continued that great tradition.

i liked the robot-shots when they weren't moving so much. optimus was quite beautiful.

immediately walking out of the theater it occured to me -- "transformers the musical".
people could have these boxy costumes that sort of "transform" when they crouch on the ground.

plus when they sing their faces could be animatronic.

of course the music would be hair metal interspersed with tacky ambient/incidental music (think dx7 presets, linn drum, 12bit reverbs, with the occasional dollop of extreme guitar-mod fx).

what do you think?

I think you are in danger. Step away from the computer. Go out into the countryside. Take up gardening. :P
