I'm hearing you AdamJay, I'm a Mac user of many years but seriously considering getting a PC lappy for just the reasons you mention. I'm sure that the time taken in setup can't be that much more on the PC than the Mac providing you do your research properly or even better have a PC-savvy buddy by your side and also that like a Mac, if you develop good use/work habits then regular maintenance becomes relatively painless. The only area that makes me hesitate is available apps./plugs/cost of up-/crossgrades etc. I know there's a SLEW of PC stuff out there but...we'll see. Anyway we're talking Live here! As far as I can see you were simply trying to communicate what your tests and research have shown you in a concise and meaningful way. Still impressed at how un-troll-y (?) this thread is...don't hear any complaints about lack of guest posting recently as the s/n ratio has risen dramatically around here.

there is always a learning curve jump from a pc to a mac or vise versa
what ever works for you works for you... i suggest if u want to try a pc you go try it on a mates system.. u can use the demo version just cant save thats all... nothing like the try before you buy approach...
whats wrong with have a pc and a mac... i have 2 pcs and a mac i just prefer the mac after 15 years of pc use but the pc still does the job

Hi shaneblyth, doesn't look like much of a mud slinging match to me... I see a group of PC users who are pointing out that their systems are cheaper and more powerful and a group of Mac users pointing out they have a nicer OS, and it all seems very calm and friendly. What do you expect of a Mac vs PC thread?shaneblyth wrote:what a shame that we get into the same .. my dad can beat your dad stuff up
didnt the guy who asked a few basic questions deseve a level headed reply we are getting into throwing mud as usal and i think we should stop how is this sort of comment suppose to be helping someone to make music on a computer... i would say it doesnt do anything to help him at all...
if you want to use unix on a pc system them grab a version of linux..
i have used it and apart from a lack of software it is ok.
but apple has polished the heck out of it...
comparing mhz on a pc and on a mac is just crazy cause it doesnt work that way on a mac.... unfortunately unless you have used a mac and pc for a long time it is hard to explain.. I think it is kinda like say my car has 300hp and it is a 4 cyclinder.. and a v8 has the same but the torque figue is what you are missing and in real life the v8 300hp will beat a 300hp 4 cyclinder because of the huge difference in torque...
like comparing apples and oranges and yesthat was a joke.
please people can we not live together and feel threatened because one of us loves his pc and another his mac... I like to give credit to pc's and macs where it is due... neither are perfect and both can do the job all be it in another way.... this seems to get into what I call predudice... white people are better than black or black better than yellows (chinese)
what aload of rubbish they maybe different but have something different to offer and quite franky if it wasnt for MACs there would not be a pc system like there is today.. most decent pc things jhave been taken fom macs originally... not all but most....
You quoted me but it's not entirely clear what your specific point was. My specific point is this - as a platform I prefer Mac, but we Mac users are being let down by slow hardware development. The Mac OS environment is great but I have no preference about the underlying hardware architecture, just so long as it provides decent performance at an affordable price. Sure, G5s are powerful and will outgun Xeons under certain benchmarks but remember this is a forum discussing Live, and when it comes to Live performance we are seeing cheaper Centrinos outpacing Apple's best. This could change if Ableton introduce an Altivec-enabled version for G4/G5 users but it still doesn't get Apple/IBM off the hook for being slow with hardware development.
