Ive got it - look at the foot that sticks out. Say to yourself 'left foot left foot' and it rotates anticlockwise.

Say 'right foot right foot' and it goes clockwise.

The clue is in the shadows

If you think of the foot that sticks out as the right foot then the shadow of the foot - which you can only see 50% of the time - turns in the opposite direction to the actual foot.

The only interpretation that makes sense is that she is spinning anticlockwise and the foot that sticks out is the left foot.

With practice you can make her swing left and right like a can can dancer.

The shadow, just as the main figure, is just a 2D silhouette which lacks depth information per se", but then: crap, right after I wrote that I realized what you meant by the suggested interpretation. You're right, there is an actual difference when you consider the arc of the extended leg and the lower part of the shadow going outside the frame. Well spotted.

But still, no left/right brain stuff there . Before, I would have said there's none of that whatsoever - but now, I suppose the conclusion you can make on the basis of the shadow fits the (traditional) "left brain" type of thought, making the counter clockwise rotation more valid in that context. But still, even after that analytical approach, you can of course "see" the actual figure change direction at will.

the squares definitely aren't the same color, but the letters might be.

May I suggest a book. "This is Your Brain on Music" by Daniel Levatin. He explains a lot of how listening, studying and creating music develops one's brain. Craw definitely is correct that the Left and Right Brain stuff is basically old thinking and modern science reveals far more connectedness. It is astounding the number of areas of the brain that are used to listen to music.

Interesting (no really!)...Maybe the thread title should be F**cked mind thread. It is rather pathetic that it can't even tell when 2 simple shades of grey are the same. Pah! How can you believe anything you see when it can't even something that simple right. Time to go and build some robot implant eyes that do better...
