The SL does not respond to CC messages to update it's screen. It can only do so using the sysex messages via automap server. This is not part of the existing firmware. We may be able to add this in a future update, but I am unable to comment on the likelihood of this update happening at this point in time. I'll add this as a feature request to our developers.
If you want to get feedback on the LCD screen, then you need to use Automap.

Yes, you can tap them lightly then, but the pads may responds slightly different to the same force (I send mine in for repair because of that). There is no option for the XY pad, but I don't think you have to push it too hard. So the new Remote SL software version is out. Can someone please check wether Tempo changes are now easily possible via the Remote's corresponding controls? I did not find any mentioning of that in the History file. Most important part of this update is this, as it should do away with some serious Midi timing problems:
