As a drummer trying to sync up with live, im interested in how you got the lights to scan in time to the beat/clock /metronome. is that a built in feature of the padkontrol or was that part of your monome hack? having a visual time reference like that would be really helpfull for me.
Its not a built in feature , its a feature of the very interesting hack which Mike has developed... and is hinting will let loose on us all at some point!
i can't wait!!

+1!

There does seem to be a pent up demand for an app that provides Padkontrol users with full access to the lights, based on midi/osc events. A kind of editor and control aid in one.. Covert Ops are working on something and Mike also.... Its amazing that Korg don't spot this and spend a few quid, then market the padkontrol as a cheap monome.. i think they'd clean up..

yeah they have metronomes that have 2 lights that go back in forth but that is lame and not all that useful but if you had a grid of pads like the pk you would not only have the time reference of the pad motion but you could tell what subdivision of the beat you were on, so 6/4 could light up in this pattern for example

1-2-3 ()
4-5-6 ()

you could also use all 16 pads and super suddivide like

1 e & a
2 e & a
3 e & a
4 e & a

There are two videos on Youtube, both showing a Korg MicroKontrol with its pads used as a step-sequencer. One is made with PD and states that it controls the MicroKontrol via Native Mode and Sysex. The other one is made with Max/Msp but has no comments on how it was done. But since it also makes the lights of the pads go on and off it must be using Sysex as well.

One way to make the padkontrol give you a visual metronome is to use an arpeggiator to send you the right notes..

the padkontrol does flicker its pads when it receives the same midi note as a pad is assigned to so -
First set up a midi channel with an arppegiator on it, sending out to the padkontrol (CTRL) on midi channel 10. Set the padkontrol to the default scene 9.
Then create a midi part with a note on C1 going over a bar. Hit play Then set up the arpeggiator so that it the RATE was 1/16, distance was 1 and steps were 7, then it would play from top left to the right across in time.

cool, i was wondering about that. i could also just make midi file w/o sounds to trigger those pads in sequence right?

yes of course... the arpeggiator just means you don't have to programme in the notes, but its basically the same thing..

that would probably be the way to go , although i would lose the actual pad functionality to trigger other notes which is what the unit is designed for : ) i do have a roland spd-s that will do that though
