Sure there's Sampler, but thats just a workaround.
if only Ableton could hire someone who has a
strong history of making a wacky sample instrumentand apply that expertise to a granular Sampler upgrade eh

All these feature requests could/should be done in a Live 7 update. I´m not paying
100 bucks for this.
1. Previously recorded automation envelopes shouldn´t be ovewritten in loop mode
when OVERDUB is on. This goes for session (+1) and arrangement view.
2. Switch macro positions in a rack just by dragging and droping. Make the racks
with options of 4, 8, 12, 16... depending of how many you want and be able to
group them in one rack to separate instrument or fxs in renameble groups. The
knob should name itself after a mapping (with a renaming posibility) and should
adjust to the values/modes depending on what you map. CC mapping for external
instrument would be nice too.
3. Split the "Device browser" into 3 different browsers Instruments / MID FX /
Audio FX with smart minimize/maximize folder function. I could live with just one
for instruments and another for FXs. I´m tired of scrolling up and down.

Look at the midi velocity plug in, that does this.
I agree though, we need a way to permanently apply these changes, and not rely on plug ins for this.

1 - Record automation in Session view.
2 - An envelope based multi fx unit.
3 - An improved forum with dedicated sections for Live Suite patches.

1. Record Automation to Session
2. Rock solid to the bone
3. Better use of real estate (so much Mousing!)
^
4. First recorded loop sets the tempo
Lve 7 is Brilliant!

1. Surround
2. Recording Automation in Session.
3. Dedicated looper device and/or first recorded loop sets tempo.
And instead of more synths

, how about adding internal tuning tables to the ones Live has (I can't justify buying any more Ableton instruments than Operator if they are limited to only 12 TET).

What am I missing? It already has this. At least I have been able to use it, or am I missing something? Say sugarbytes ERA for instance. Put it on a channel, and from another midi channel, select the ERA channel as input, and select ERA in the chooser where you choose pre/post FX. Works for me...
