You aught to ride a better quality of train there ! Last train I was on a few weeks back ( NY to Boston) I plugged in...Thats right ! AC 3 prong right next to the seat. I was processing vocals and percussion loops through my newly aquired 'Soundhacker' spectral plugins in Live giggling like an idiot (not difficult) my wife hitting me asking me what the hells my problem ! I tried to explain that a mear few years ago this would not be thinkable let alone possible. Live rules. Live 4 will rule even better

I don't think Live 3 was a DAW. Not to be a prick; I only mention that because I believe that with the inclusion of MIDI sequencing and editing that live 4 IS finally a DAW technically.
Digital Audio Workstation. What's that got to do with MIDI?

Well, it is one of the three charactheristics something must have to be characterized as a DAW. just semantics, but Live was never technically a DAW before 4 if I'm not mistaken, and this textbook in front of me lends a little validity.

Well... I think Live3 works digital audio like no other programme out there
Stupid debate, though.

so true. I just mentioned it because I'm glad that with 4 no one will be able to exclude Live from the big relevant DP; Logic; ProTools list of DAWs anymore.
I was shocked to hear it reported here that Macs run live some 30% ( I think that was the figure) less efficiently than PC. I am also waiting to hear if Altivec is the optimization in question for 4. i have to admit that without rendering I'd be unable to do a lot of my work with the current config. with 4, Live is THE powerhouse DAW as far as I'm concerned, and I'll save plenty of CPU just by not having to run Reason or DP4 for MIDI.

do a search on this forum, the whole mac performance thing has been mentioned alot
and since XP instability is largely a thing of the past too, so it has been a big issue for live users.
but hopefully now that's all going to change!
I think it quite possibly will be the thing that prompts me to make the move
