well it's mainly because that's where our families are

but missus just spoke to her mum for a bit and after listening to her moan about traffic and eastern europeans making it too busy and stealing all the jobs or something she got off the phone saying 'we live in such a great place I'm so glad we live here' so I'd say we're staying put for the time being

A very wise choice. Maybe a few of us could move over to your place if it's people you need, we could start a commune or something. I'm sure it'd all go really well considering how much love exists on this forum.

@YILA, Again, please PLEASE don't move to Cornwall or plant the idea into anybody else's head, we have enough here now and are considering blowing up the Tamar bridge and raising a big steel wall.

ive been here for just over 2 years. i have been back every year for weddings etc and it take about 24 hours to realise why i left.

i miss the people, family, friends, the sense of humour, vimto, pub crawls, hellmans mayo and marks & spencer sandwiches and thats it!!!

coming back to oz last time was gutted [tearful] after two weeks on the piss with friends [as you know aussies cant drink, so i really missed it].

but when i got back i really know why i left. a mate in sydney had to move back as his wife didnt like it. six months later they moved back. i wouldnt dream of bring my kids up [if i have some] in england knowing the life they could have here.

take a holiday [rent your place] and take a time out, but dont cut the ties with haste.

sounds really similar - when I've been back I've remembered prettty quick - and speaking to a mate last night was reminding me a lot of things - like the commute he does every day!!

I think we'll stick with it for now

at the end of the day im england through and through in my heart, but my brain knows when its onto a good thing. so i'm happy here.

I moved to Canada in 2000 and don't miss England except going to Elland Road on saturdays for footie and watching more misery while paying half my wage for the privilege - but really, overpopulation, devastation of green areas, pollution and traffic misery is symptomatic of most of the World.

Rain - bah, try -42 degrees and 3 feet of snow in 24 hours (on the rarer occasions this happens, tornadoes, hurricanes, as well as flooding, Canada and the USA have all these problems in the northern part of the USA and Canada, polluted lakes and rivers.

Really the lifestyle is pretty much the same except for those who get an education there's a chance to make a slightly better living in some circumstances. If I returned to the UK it wouldn't be a major hardship, I have a slightly better career here and things cost slightly less but not by much. As for the BBC, I would kill for it here, the watered down, ad filled crap we have masquerading as BBC Canada is utter shite. And under Canadian law it has to broadcast 33% canadian (non BBC content) anyway, just as the radio stations have to play 33% Canadian artists minimum (the classic rock station keeps playing the same Rush, Saga and April Wine tracks over and over again).

I have lived in France for nearly 2 years too back in the mid 90's. Different place, same shit in many ways. Nowadays I just get on with living week to week wherever that may be and stop worrying about greener grass, Canadian PM Harper is as much a muppet as Bush and Blair/Brown, more so in some ways.

Personally London would be my first choice of city besides Seattle to live. I'm a bit of a history buff, and the city is filled with it. Plus I like the general attitude of the city, unlike large american cities.
My favorite grandparent was cornish.

as it goes im hoping to move to australia sometime in the future....my company would be able to sort work for me....i have mates that are out there now and they say goin out there was te best thing they have ever done
