I used to use Sonar in conjunction with Live. Since Live 6 though, I've been using Live 100%. The only thing I miss from Sonar is the way it handles cross fading clips. Perhaps Live 8 will improve on this .

+1 crossfading clips on arrangement, folder tracks, and proper dual monitor support with session view one side and arrangement on the other would be some great improvements but Live is really my go to sequencer these days, I actually resent having to use Cubase, although I still do so occasionally.

These are the features the DAW centric of us would really like but those MIDI knob tweakers and DJs probably have their own priorities, such as the 128 parameters limit and such.

I just recorded my own album which is alternative/rock/psychedelic influenced sounds, and although I used session to build up the parts for verses, choruses, etc, I recorded some elements right into the arrangement to get away from the 'cut and pasted' sound and it worked out great. So long as your audio interface is good and can handle what you need in terms of IO, Live functions pretty well as a standard digital linear tape recorder daw, like the more established Logic, Sonar and Cubase.

if you think it's about what sequencer you use, you've lost the plot.

thumbs up for Live--i tried the Logic route, and have been much happier using Live with additional plugins.

I've used Live as my main sequencer and performance environment since Version 4. I just like it warts and all.

yup. tried 'demo' versions of all of them over period of a year or so. Live is best by far.

I use live for all my work. Everything I have recorded as Creature has been written and recordd in live. I mainly use the arrangement view. Although I really should try playing around with session view more.

Once my tracks are finished I master them in soundforge. The only extra features in Live I really want are curved automation and Track groups. If Ableton implement those 2 features I will be very very happy.

I mainly use VST instruments and effects these days instead of real hardware, mainly out of convenience, I make a lot of use of the psp vintage warmer.

My studio has shrunk from lots of external gear and racks to just a laptop, monitors, audio interface and a novation remote 25SL. I use a Zoom H4 as a found sound recorder. The only external gear I still use are an old Korg Electribe ER-1 (I just love the sound of this device) and my circuit bent toys.

I have used Live full time since version 5

Been playing guitar and making music generaly for 20 years, used to make over-dub tape mixes in the 80's and always dreamt of getting proper studio time one day......

In the 90's a profesional muso mate of mine had a hardware/cubase set-up that cost about 25 grand so still a bit out of my price range.

Got my first PC in 2002 and started music making using Reason (1.0) though was always tempted by the world of VST's but found Cubase etc. too fidly with routing and that so stuck with Reason.

Tried various VST/Audio DAW's over the years but found the constant setting up got in the way.

Now use I Live for everything, (since version 3.0) only coming back to Reason for some re-wireing/re-birthing (still the best soft 303 IMO) occasionaly.

I work full time and have a family that need my attention so being able to get some tunes down quickly and have fun is paramount.

Still have to pinch myself when I think of whats possible now compared to the basic set-up I had in my teens.

Just wish I had the same amount of free time I had then!

PS: The mate with the 25G hardware/cubase set-up now uses live too and has sold most of his out-board
