Hmm. So...is anyone else having this problem with the AirPortAtheros file? Because it seems as if the Disc Utility suggestion solved part of the problem anyway...

Dunno if it helps, but I did get that AirportAtheros file error message too, but the Repair Permissions fixed it too...

MacBook Pro 2.0 and Mac OS 10.4.11 here.
I replaced the IO80211Family.kext and repaired permissions, then did a reboot.
All my audio apps are now working fine except for Live 6.0.10.
I tried the 7.0.3 demo and the crackles persist.
Turning off Airport as support suggested (the above procedure was also hinted) didn't do it for me.
I guess I'll never update again when all is working fine.
Should have learned that long time ago :|

So, having tried every possible trick to reinstall this file and repair permissions in every possible order, it keeps telling me that the AirPortAtheros was installed improperly.

Does anyone have another suggestion here? I'm at wit's end...

Ok, the long nightmare is at last over. bdhm's solution and the order did it for me.
But here's what I'd been doing wrong:

I didn't "install" with Pacifist -- I "extracted."

hiya,
forgive the noobness. I have the dreaded audio pops/crackle thing too. It just pops loudly every now and then. Is there a sure, safe and easy-ish way to fix this? Have Apple got back to anyone on this, or put a bug fix in their latest airport update for this yet?

Cheers.

My first day back on my MBP and I get this update and associated shitty sound. I JUST sent my Dell back cause it was doing the exact same thing.

I am starting to think QC is going to pot.

Can you post an alternate location? That thread on Apple does not work for me.

Thanks much for the files, but they dont seem to work for me.

I did as the rtf instructed but no luck, even after restart.

I even looked on the internet and followed someone else's advice to repair permissions then restart again.

:( WOW, if it wasn't for some of the awesome music you peeps are putting out with Ableton, I don't think I would be motivated enough to keep pursuing this mess.

3 Computers and 1 Live version later I still can't get the thing stable.

Any suggestions on how to roll the update back? I am a Mac newb, but at least Windows lets you roll back a driver, or uninstall an unwanted update.

Thanks again timothyallan. :(

Wow, so i'm buying a macbook soon and i'll read this to see if there's any way I can avoid this problem. My windows laptop has this exact problem already, where my wireless connection causes spikes and glitching audio. It's annoying as hell. Though fairly easy to fix (just disable the wireless card).

Thanks for posting the thread to fix it. :)
I've been having this problem with my G5 tower ever since upgrading to leopard. My G5 is connected via ethernet and airport is switched off, so that isn't the cause of the problem on my end.

Hey Timothy, Thanks again. I repeated everything again, only this time, I 1) unpacked the zip, 2.) replaced the files as instructed by your RTF, 3) Restarted, 4) came back and actually installed the DMG for the older Airport firmware, 5) Restarted and NO GLITCH!!

+1000 for you man, I am freaking stoked, my sets run perfectly!!
