not a Gemini but close, as far as personalities go. I'm supposed to match with Geminis the best (married a Leo, it works.)
btw I've been thinking of starting a "hey baby, what's your sign" thread. can't vote on a per-sign basis, but can do the air-fire-earth-wind thing.

though astrology - the moon influences the tides right? and mankind is what, made up of 80-90% water? maybe the moon and indeed other planets exert some kind of influence on us too?
the whole argument doesn;t stand up if you look at it for more than a second
We are made of water and the oceans are made of water, the oceans have tides therefore we have tides?
hmm, anyone smell a logical fallacy of false similarity?
There is an *ahem* slight difference of scale here, which is where the tides happen.
Tides are created because the Earth and the moon are gravitationally attracted to each other. The moon tries to pull at anything on the Earth to bring it closer. But, the Earth is able to hold onto everything except the water. Since the water is always moving, the Earth cannot hold onto it, and the moon is able to pull at it. So everything is being pulled by the same amount, it is just that the large bodies of water can't hang on so well.
There are stronger tides when the sun and moon are in alignment, but as for falling evenly into 12 divisable bands? Well, you would be seeing an eclipse of the sun every year on the same day if this nice tidy alignment theory were true. You don;t because it isn't.
As for the seasonal connection with any astrology?
the moons sidereal period is 27.32 days, our year is 365.24 days long. That makes the lunar alignment 13.36 rather than 12. so the horoscope ought to rotate around by 1.36 birth signs every year !
In addition ... personally my water is well saturated into my meat, and any gravitational forces are equally distrubuted throughout all my systems. My personal dimensions are not on the scale of an ocean, so what little fluid water I have is not really being pulled away from my body any more than my pubes are.
mmmm...that didnt really persuade me
I mean, I totally accept it might not exactly adhere to the current belief system attached to it, but I'm not sure I really get why the discrepancy in size of water bodies neccessarily makes any difference to whether the gravitational forces would affect them or not
for an ocean it results in these massively powerful things called waves that people can surf on
in humans maybe it just makes the difference between whether they feel like going down the boozer and getting in trouble or staying at home and watching never mind the buzzcocks
who the fuck knows?
i dont

Maybe that would work if we always faced in the same direction every time we made a decision.

Here's my take on astrology / tarot / iching etc:
If the omen is good, I'm like, 'Sweet!'
If the omen is bad, I'm like, 'Well it's a good thing I don't believe in that shit anyway.'
Reminds me of a bumper sticker concept developed in 2001: 'Believe in stuff'

reminds me of my aunt who said 'if it's good I believe it, if it's bad I dont'
"believe in stuff"
pretty much spot on
though I just want to make clear - i dont "believe in" any of this - this is all just speculation on what
might be behind it all

i know its not really much of an argument and it probably doesnt 'hold much water', but if i was going to have some kind of belief in astrology, and i guess i do but just a tiny bit. then the moon and tides thing would provide me with a sort of explanation.
and when i was on about the moon and planets possibly having some kind of influence on us i meant like mankind as a whole, as a mainly water based thing that is spread over the earth, and from that i guess all living things too
but like forge said , who the fuck knows, i certainly dont
i do get moody sometimes too, and i go to the pub often as well
