Just wanted to say that I'm having issues in Live 7.03 with this too, both with a Machinedrum UW and Korg EMX-1. Using either a TM-1 midi interface, or the midi on my Ultralite. The MIDI Clock offset parameter is NOT working here, and yes I know how to read the manual.

Annoying like you can't believe.

Is it only using live as the master and not the other way round?
I use an EMX as my master but whenever I've tried it the other way round it's been fine.

i don't sync gear anymore, but I used to a lot
live has always been a bad master
i haven't tried 7, they say they fixed it?

3dot... do you have anything you can use as a master clock to slave live to? a drum machine maybe?

the workaround has always been to slave live.

I had an FX device that would disply the tempo when midi slaved. I would slave it to live and watch the temp wobble a good 2 bpm each way. it made delays awful

I don't wanna use it the other way around..
I want my sequencer to be the master...

I need to automate tempo changes in some tracks....

plus...
(this ones for you bounce...)

THE MANUAL says it can do it... but it can't!...

(isn't that fraud?)

my system is well within the specs of live

I have not bought an expensive piece of SW to sit and wait for the bugfix that's never gonna come

again...
WTF

I need to stop playback every time it loops to re sync it.?
it's outrageous..

I and many others reported this bug WAAAAY before 7 was released...

I know, it's not helping you but syncing externals works without
a hassle here. I'm on 7.02 and the MPC and the Nord are understanding
Live's masterclock pretty good. None of your mentioned problems here.
:?

I think when it works good for some users and not for others, it must be
hardware and software compatiblity problem. I've got a Terratec Midi Hubble
and never had any issues....

has it never worked for you, or since a single update ?

(sorry if some things are mentioned before, haven't read the whole thread)

nobody else on PC having trouble with syncing external synths???

Well, to clarify a few things:

- I'm on OSX here, not a PC if that matters at all. 10.5.3.
- I could use the MD or the EMX as a master, but I've never experienced any difference that way.
- For me, the timing is stable per se, I'm not getting any timing 'jitter'. My issue is that audio from the external synths into Live is always delayed (which is to be expected), but there's no way to compensate for this. The MIDI Clock offset function in the MIDI Pref's is not working at ALL for me. No matter what I set it to, the audio is always delayed by the same amount.

This might not help as I recently sold my EMX but I didn't have any timing problems with Live. I had the EMX hooked to the MIDI out on my audio kontrol 1 soundcard, I had sync turned on for the soundcard output in Live, then what I did was turn on the metronome only on both Ableton and the EMX, dropped down the MIDI clock sync delay menu under the AK1 output and I changed the delay time until the two metronomes were perfectly locked. After that it was fine.

can you go into a mixer? this is a great way to get rid of these issues. you can record every thing with monitor mode "off" and have live compensate the highest latencies.

once you have your recordings in live you can mix down through the mixer again.

Well I know he did a lot of research on here and the manual and rs forum. Nobody was able to help him sort it out and others were having the same issues. Bounce what hardware do you run with live?

IMHO Live sync behaviour is is odd. OK when you not using external instruments, but complely hosed when you are - as in you add to advanced the midi clock in prefereence by a rediculous amount to get your synth in proper bar sync.

I dont get any drift however - that sounds like messages are getting lost - flakey driver etc.

Changing it works for me.

Try NOT using external instrument plugin if they need sync - do it the old fashionned way instead (separate midi and audio tracks).

The worst for me is my machinedrum - I have to advance the clock in prefs by some crazy amount.
