orge wrote: Ability to set the default size of a loop or modify the loop size to specific values (1,4,8,16). I currently hack this with MIDIStroke and Ikey, but it really should be a feature of Live.

I second that. IMO one of the most critically needed features in Live. Live having a 1 bar default with no ability to change it is a bit odd especially considering that less than 10% of the people seem to compose with mostly 1 bar loops.

-did someone already mention user-definable keyboard shortcuts? :)
(and more parameters should have shortcuts anyway. like mute, arm or solo selected track for instance. Luckily I can do this via midi with my faderfox, but why not have keyboard shortcuts for this as well?).

-Option to auto-arm the selected track would be nice too.

-wacom support :)

-ability to type in exact values for envelope breakpoints.

-ability to type in exact values for midi note parameters (esp velocity!)

-some kind of track folder/grouping feature as has been mentioned countless times would awesome.

I second snakedogman and also would like function "Freeze all tracks separately" with bonus option box "And flatten too"! Also as I mentioned somewhere before - "Process viewer" to monitor what plugins are cpu hungry

EVENT HISTORY AND MIDI EVENT LIST

EVENT HISTORY

1) Just like the one in Photoshop and other programs, Let us see every step/layer that we can undo, so we can see and/or go directly back or forward to a certain event, instead of one "mystery" step at a time, only seen by clicking on and using the pull down menu
over and over and over..... This is a big issue --- workflow and professionalism that other programs have had for years !!!

2) Let us have a Midi event list for each clip !!!!

Both should be very easy to implement !!!

+1 for customizable keyboard shortcuts, I love that in Digital Performer which is my main DAW, live is something I am using mostly for performance mixing.
about the setup.

7 tracks, A B A B A B C (center no a/b selection)

A1 drum loops 1
B1 drum loops 2
A2 fill drums 1
B2 fill drums 2
A3 Synths & Bass 1
B3 Synths & Bass 2
C1 Leads
each assigned to keybord keys, C1 and so on, from the left side of my remote sl 25, the first seven white keys are mutes, first seven black keys are launch.

1. I am mixing my own album material in a live set, I have midi keys set to choose A/B/C, so I can mix the tracks full on or cut to one set of tracks or the other, I use keys assigned to the mutes to cut individual track on each side from the mix, I would like to be able to tell live to treat each midi key in its own way.

now when I mute a track through a keyboard key (C1) its press once to mute, press again to unmute, I want the option to assign which keys act THIS way, or assign some keys to mute while the key is held, and UNMUTE WHEN THE KEY IS RELEASED.

2. Also I would love to see 3 buttons below the pan knob, to assign the pan style for stereo and mono files, for stereo files you could choose FADE-BLEND-SPREAD.

1-FADE-would adjust the volume of the left and right internally(gain amount only)

2-BLEND-should adjust the left/right signal mix

3-Spread-should act as a stereo field adjuster, narrow, widen or off.

being able to select the style of pan for each track, and set them in forward and reverse modes would have some really nice potential.

(by forward/reverse I mean you could choose to have any of the three go higher or lower when the pan knob is turned, have the gain on the left go up a little when turning left, but the signal blend goes a little strong to the right, or the reverse of that etc... understand? Ihope so)

3. the ability to host vst and au instruments while under rewire, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! ( the explanation behind why I want this is so long I am not going to bother  )

4. be able to assign a midi control # to open or close the bottom window of FX racks so I can see my FX when I need to without thouching the mouse and close them the same.

5. the ability to assign multiple launch points to an audio clip.

6. clip specific FX assignments.

7. midi assignable warp markers so I can hit a key or button and have a vocal sample change, say it plays at normal speed to start then speeds up towards the end, then I hit my controller key and the markers reverse or adjust so its plays fast at the start and then slows to normal.

envision being able to drop a clip with warp markers into impulse, and program 4 or 5 changes to the warp markers.
you have a 4 word vocal sample, make the first word stretch and the last three play at normal speed while all in sync to the beat, hit a button and the warp markers shift so that the first and second words are at normal speed ant the third word is now stretched, making one impulse pad the sample trigger, and the other seven changes to the sample warping, like having speed time and pitch macros within your drum triggers, I hope this made sense.

-more than 128 Midi Parameter access
-group-fadersupport

(well...and everything you guys said  )

ability to make dummy clips without pre determining the length of the clip... I need to have clips launch and send preset changes to my synth, and let me record live without having a predetermined length for the clip. This would work well even for clips that don't loop. Especially for lead solos. I just want to have one controller to use while ableton changes presets for me when i select the scene in the session view. this keeps one hand free, and also requires less actions for me to do in a live situation.
Please expand on the possibilities with dummy clips.

i think we also need the ability for a clip to launch during session view ahead of the down beat. This is useful for audio loops that start a little bit ahead of the first beat in a measure. Also, this will do wonders for VST's and Synths since some need a few extra milliseconds or beats for the preset change to settle in. Plus, it will do wonders for vocal tracks that don't exactly start at the very beginning down beat.
Also, audio clips in session view need to have more control over the fade in and out features. if there was a knob i could turn to have the audio that goes past the end of a clip and have it fade into the beginning after looping for the first time, that'd be very useful
in fact, i don't understand how this feature isn't already in Ableton.

Maybe there is another way around this using launch modes. If so, help me out. Cuz, I'm having a hard time getting vocal tracks to sound proper when using session mode.

hmm.... i think i've figured out a way around this.. i'll have to get back to this post and dispute this one myself, unless anyone has any ideas.

new, more advanced arpeggiator (i would really like to have step-editing like Nexus does)
maybe the possibility to export mp3 (i know it needs licensing and stuff, but it would be nice)
a bookmarks page - it's a real need when you have lots of samples or plugins... you just bookmark the ones you use most

1) rock solid software at v8.0 (not 8.22 one year after the first release)

2) rock solid PDC (plugins delay compensation) also on the aux,

3) fx rack with already routing option inside (mix wet / dry, link / LR / MS routing, multiband processing) i know we already can do it, but it needs multi incorporated fx rack and its just boring and busy to work quickly with

4) group track to clean the heavy project, group fader support

5) sound editor integrated in live (a more accurate tool)to avoid to open another application just for simple edition think

6) crossfaded clip and bezier curves for automation

7) new live audio and midi plugins : advanced beat repeat, step sequencer (like matrix in reason for instance), LFO to add quickly modulation to any live/vst parameter, freq analyser integrated to eq 8, more analysis tools

8 ) more midi tools

9) more midi controller support (euphonix, jazz mutant dexter, ....)

10) elastic audio pro or celemony algorythm inside live8

Racks inner presets recallable through program change. No need for reload a rack when you just want a different set of parameters

+1 easy drawing of envelopes in clips

The most critically needed plug-in they need is a quantize (with swing), and groove quantize midi plug-in.

I think the step sequencer could be better if it was integrated into the piano roll like Project 5.

Live's piano roll is almost there, it is pretty pattern oriented already. All it need is a mode where you can step input notes using the midi keyboard and go back delete notes/change resolutions with user definable key commands.

Add curve drawing tools for clip envelopes, and Live would be a great step sequencer.
