I had to dj as warm-up in the other room, the Mobilee Label night, upstairs. This gets you a backstage pass and all the booze in the backstage fridge. Might as well check out the show too eh?
It's just Traktor, the 2D controls everything, no timecode vinyl involved.

Traktor3 with xone1d as a midi controller
Sounds cool..So he is still beatmixing and using a midi controller to control the pitch?

I doubt it, Traktor 3 has beatgrids and auto beatmatching, I haven't used it myself, but i'm guessing it's not that hard.
I wonder what the other midi tracks are for?
From the mnml forum:
Richie Hawtin's live setup goes a little something like this:
2x Apple Macbook Pros
2x NI Audio 8 DJ
1x Lacie external hard drive
1x A&H Xone:92 Mixer
2x A&H Xone:1D MIDI controllers
1x Foot Pedal
and some VIZO Starlet UV Blue USB Cables
The Left laptop is running Ableton Live with 3 MIDI tracks open in Live mode. He has the Lexicon PSP 42 delay effect constantly open. He controls that with the left 1D and a foot pedal. The right one has Traktor 3.3 with four decks controlled by the right 1D. It has the master MIDI clock which it sends to the Ableton Mac via Ethernet.
It looks like Richie Hawtin has really taken his sponsors products on board. Maybe if he wasn't so influential his setup would be a bit different to what it is now.

Do any of you realize how many times "one computer with traktor the other one with ableton for effects" has been answered so far?" like a dozen times now someone has said that as if no one else has filled us in yet.
not trying to be rude here, just sayin

Richie Hawtin's career ended once he fled to berlin and grew out his hair. I used to love the old plastikman records and all of plus 8's releases. Whatever happened? Minus is crap and minimal techno is anything but minimal these days.

The word "minimal" is just a placeholder for a new worldwide consent style of clubmusic.
Im not a big fanboy either but minus is just on top of a list of trendy labels and they are doing well... economically.
If you like the output or not they are pretty succesful and released some (not too many) records i like.
This is what i hear from a lot of americans, maybe you are jealous because you only have Miami and we have Berlin, hehe...

I'm not a big fan either, but
only have miami? ; guess you haven't really experienced the states then.
Miami - (extrememly commercial music conference) WMC
but you forgot Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, DC, and of course NY.

Typical hawtin thread lol
A) Someone starts talking about Hawtin
B) Someone gets all arrogant and rants about why Hawtin and minimal techno sucks
C) Same arrogant person, or someone equally as arrogant, mentions Aphex Twin as one of their faves
D) Someone mentions how minimal is no longer minimal
E) Someone mentions that Hawtin is no longer the Hawtin they used to know
I dunno, you either get minimal techno or you dont. Pretty much like any other genre. Im just glad I grew up listening to a wide variety of music and can enjoy a pleothra of sounds as long as they dont contain a surplus of cheese.
My question is though, why bother ripping on minimal when Tiesto is still number one?

I'm sure I'll be a big fan again once he decides to produce original music again. I really like Hawtin, it's just that I think the problem is that he has sunk down to the level of many of the other big name rockstar djs. I agree that minus puts out good material still, however you just have to understand that it isn't the same as the plus8 days.

I havent,
but on the other hand theres not too much coming out of those cities on a global scale these days. Sure back then NY Wild Pitch house was big, same with Chicago house (im too young for this one) and Detroit changed a lot of things for every technolover.
But not anymore, theres still coming quality stuff out of the US but why did they all moved to Berlin?
a) its way cheaper
b) its way posher
c) you get a shitload of gigs once your *in*

From my experience of traktor the beatgrids suck. not got too in depth with it though
