What the hell people? You're all acting like computers are not going to be twice as powerful in a couple of years. HELLO???

I think Ableton is fully capable of wisely incoporating more video features without compromising the integrity of the heart and soul of the program.

but one of the first things I said when I used video was "damn, you mean we can't do this in session on the fly?"

There, you've suggested it yourself, a different application all together. I wouldn't like it when Live got double in size on my hd because it has loads of features (that theoretically could be turned off and hidden in the preferences) that I never use. If they want to get more coders in the company and dedicate a whole department to a new app, that's fine by me. It might even be a good business plan.

Cold Cut was cool for some time, but nowadays, I just put on the cd to listen instead of the cd-rom to watch the videos.

I never used Simpler, Sampler, Operator or any other live instrument except Impulse, same with effects, half or more never used. Their existence however never bothered me.
I think people panic for no reason.
Video as part of performance is not really "future"but very much today. 70% of my earnings are video related- music for DVDs, TV, web etc and live video of course.

Not until they have integrated the DNA - tecnique in audio clips.

It's more than just VJs that need video functionality. If the theatrical sound designers who use Live could easily control video projections, I'm sure they'd be psyched.

More artists could use Live for installations. Yes, there is already Jitter, but having more power for experimentation with video in Live would be very a welcome thing to that community.

The future is going to require more and more visual output. Personally I'd like to just have one well designed application to take care of everything.

Simple with the most basic of VJ apps.

I think a separate Live video module bought separately that had no detrimental impact on audio would be a good idea.

What the future will bring is not so sure. Your opinion is more visual, my opinion is we've been quite visual the last hundred years if not longer, so it's not really going to change that dramatically.

The quest for a "be-all-end-all" application is what scares me the most though. Somewhere between the lines, when we buy a computer (which is a general problem solving machine) we expect it to be able to do everything. But the most useful and effective applications are those that help a small group of people. Specific apps for specific situations. Session View for the stage etc...

To my experience, Live has been designed for producing/performing (electronic) music. Cool if people use it for other stuff, but that shouldn't be Ableton's concern.

Keep the video support in Live to a minimum, just for scoring. If you want more, get another app or beg Ableton to make a seperate app for video.

there has never before been the option to play such high quality visuals so cheaply and easily. It is only now that we are seeing computers that can do both together.

To me the idea of having a few video files playing in the session view either as you trigger scenes or with follow actions could be really unobtrusive and at the same time deceptively powerful.
