Well the update did not go well so far on my DS4 Install ..

I ran the update to 10.5.4 from 10.5.2(yes I never did the 10.5.3) and now when I boot on my partition I have the spinning wheel going on and on.

I tried to do the /sbin/fsck -fy but no success.

I did the update from another OSx install (so I was not live on the partition I was updated), reinstall my kext (or so I think) repair permission, clear the kext cache ...

Any Idea ?

Try to delete (backup first) the /vanilla folder, then re-install LS8v12 post-patch.

Didn't work for me. I should have said that I did try that before.

I originally used some kext back from February (except the SMBIOS) but I was extremely stable with that so no need to upgrade anything else. When I encountered the problem with 10.5.4 upgrade, the first thing I did was running the v12 srcipt.

So, I guess I will have to start back from scratch .... I still have my 911 boot disk (basic install of OSx 10.5.1) so I am not completely stuck. Personal data are on a separate disk so nothing lost at all in the operation (and anyway I can still see & acess the volume when boot on my 911).

That's part of the game ..... wink.gif

If you went from 10.5.2 -> 10.5.4 with the combo update, then it's likely that you let the installer put the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext in place, when you probably should have done the "while sleep 1 ; rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUP* ; done" thing while installing it. Oh, and don't forget about the first startup script that you need to edit before you reboot...

maybe it´s the wrong place here, because i used kalyway 10.5.2 for installing, but i think the problem might be motherboard-related.

Onboard LAN doesn´t work, but that doesn´t matter, i use USB WLAN instead. Audio now works fine with 889 kext. Geforce 8500 GT works great with nvinject. Restart and shutdown work with fix (but fans keep spinning for about 1/2-1 minute after shutdown and then stop. is that fixable?) but wake-up after sleep doesn´t work! And the worst thing is, I get kernel panics some times, often after some hours using itunes + firefox + stuffit.
Any ideas?

Everything works 100%. Wireless, internal Audio, and my Apogee Duet. Sessions that used 50% in Ableton Live on my MBP now use less than 25%. I ran a burn in program that kept all 4 cores at 100% for 24 hours without a crash. CPUs never went above 38 C.

@ ekwipt --- KALWAY is currently OSX 10.5.2 ONLY. DONT UPDATE!!!!

I have a macpro, this was downloaded from the insanelymac forums

I was thinking about it then read all the problems people are having (can't update etc, etc)

I'm on 10.5.4 on my macpro and it actually fixed some latency problems i was having, if you can't update what's the point?

Why bother with a Hackintosh... unless you've got nothing better to do?

the only thing that tempts me is i already have a decent PC and dont want to shell out for more hardware. i prefer linux for work and use XP for music, BUT I would like to give Logic a try and i wouldnt mind too much changing from XP to OSX just for music because the things about XP and OSX that bother me dont come into my music making realm.

Im intending to give it a go soon as I actually own a legit copy of OSX (I've got an iBook G4 sitting around which i use just for testing software i write).

i'll report back when i get around to it

You can update. When Kalyway releases 10.5.4 combo update then it will be updated. The sacrifice you have to make is that you cannot use the Apple updater for core OS updates. All other updates work great. But considering I have a machine that is just a hair beneath a 8-core MP for $800 makes that a no brainer for me:

to make things clear, i own 2 macbooks, an iphone, an ipod , blablabla....

i even bought Ilife 08!!....lol

Just for the sake of curiosity i tried the "Hackintosh way" on a DELL inspiron 530
Q6600/4Gb of ram/etc........
at first i thought it would be a nightmare....
but.....it work like a dream for 3 weeks now.....most powerful MAC i ever had...

few problems, but nothing problematic :The integrated network card doesn't work...don't care, i have my Black macbook for the internet...
The ATI 2400 that ships with the DELL was not compatible..i replaced it with a 30 euros Nvidia 7200GS and it work beautyfully...
This machine run the LIVE 7 performance test at 27%!!!!
which is really good imho..
Just upgraded to 10.5.4
Running easily 12 hours a day, no crash, no kernel panic etc......

just to say it CAN work.....
and it won't stop me from buying a new apple machine, i'm waiting for the next generation of macbook pro

i'm thru building a Hackintosh this weekend, and it was mainly an easy thing.

Soft:
Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.3 via Leo4All on seperate HD
dual booting with Win XP Sp2

My attempt in building a hackintosh in additon to my Win XP was mainly
the interest in several Mac-only software, like Gleetchlab, Quartz Composer
M by Cycling 74, and some AudioUnit Plugins. Ok, and i was curious about
Logic Pro

which previous versions i was using on pc's some 8 Years
ago.
Also, for general purposes it's nice to learn another OS.

So, i managed to get the Leo4All, a good tutorial and the hardware drivers i need (insanelymac, hackintosh, leo4all, etc) to start. booting from dvd and install leo on the seperate HD worked all fine and 30 mins later i was on the Leo Deskptop.
The hard part was about to come - installing the hardware drivers. For me, it was hard to get the kext thingy to run but all went fine except for the Ricoh adapter,
which was essential to get the multiface running. after long hours of trial and error it worked (mainly i discovered "kexthelper" which does all the work for you...). The hackintosh runs stable and with the same power as on XP. Lives
performance is the exact same, and the overall feeling of OSx is very fine.
Since two days i get around the OS and like more from day to day....
Good to know to have XP running and that i can get back everytime.

only wierd thing is that one partition of my external HD isn't recognized by Leopard - no mount point detected......i'm afraid of data loss if i try to fuck with that.

ah, and Logic Pro is awesome.....for sure

you could just copy it somewhere whilst under XP to have access to it in os x

It's formatted with the NTFS filesystem and should therefore work easily with OSX. Other way around would'nt work.
On the same HD there are 2 more partitions, also with NTFS, which are working fine...

seems like an index problem or so....
any mac user who can jump in?

yeah I do all my work with Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) and then boot into XP when i make music...although soon im going to buy a new machine so I can have one for work and one for music.

in the meantime i fancy using OSX on this computer.

you'r right that i can't write to the NTFS Win Partitions, which isn't a problem for me.
The partition which is not mountable hosts all my Music, so it's not acceptable that i don't have access to it. In OSX's Disk Utility the partition shows up, but it's neither checkable nor repairable (which i would be scared about anyway).
It says "no mountpoint found" in the first line of the specs. The suggestion tto format the partition is the only way to go i think, cause i've done chkdsk on it via Xp without success. Downside is that i haven't enough space for backup...
will probably lend me some hd from a friend and do this...

ah, the partition is about 120gb from which are less than 2gb free. can it be that
OSX needs more than these 2gb for indexing the partition. Can it be thatÄs this the reason ?
