So... just came back from watching it.

And... hmmmm...

Some some but mostly I'm afraid.

Very well cast - especially Rorschach and Nite Owl, liked the music, good effects and action, and some bits were changed to make more sense than in the book. But to me, it just felt like flicking through the book really fast and superficially and it never really touched me deeply at all, unlike the book. So, I think it was a fair attempt, but maybe the capturing the book's greatness is just not possible in 2 hours.

My thoughts as well. I'm now of the opinion a less stringent interpretation would have served the story better on screen. A for effort but for a book I love it doesn't work for me as a film.

I never read the comic. But I thought the movie was really really good. Sure it had it's flaws, but what do you expect when you're trying to flesh out six major characters, a love triangle, the end of the world, AND Richard Nixon in 2.75 hours? It's very hard to do, but I think it did so with a lot of style and charisma.

Buttom line is that this isn't about superheroes. It's about vigilantes and one blue demigod. So once you get over that, this becomes a story about human nature, violence, war, and the darkness that exists in all of us. The choices people make, and their repercussions are felt deeply, and by the end, you have gone through a bizarre journey. Everything that a dark and epic comic should stir up in people.

Highly recommended (if you're someone who likes to think).

Oh, one other thing...I think if there was a giant squid at the end of it, it would TOTALLY DESTROY ALL CREDIBILITY. That would make me LOL@Watchmen.

I like that much of the dialogue was included word for word from the comic.

I really liked the movie overall, go see it in Imax, you won't be dissapointed.

Saw it last night, and I agree with your assessment. And the giant squid at the end only made sense in the book because there was a lot more room to explore Veidt's research into genetics and psychology.

I couldn't figure out why the squid ending was more believable in the comic context but would've been completely ridiculous had the movie done it.

In the comic, Dr. Manhattan's abandonment of clothing is more gradual - the Pentagon actually outfit him with a snazzy uniform when they first introduce him to the public. His eventual descent into nudism(from full-sized uniform to Vietnam-era shorts to full blue penis brilliance) is one facet of his disassociation with his fading humanity. What importance does vulgar human "decency" have to someone like him?

They could have explained it better, but that always comes around to the central problem of this movie - it's a movie.

I agree with Terry Gilliam(who was briefly attached to an aborted late-90s attempt at filming Watchmen), who commented that to properly film this thing, you would have to do it as a television miniseries of at least five hours.

OMG people, grow up. This is how it is in the book and it makes sense considering his disassociation with the frivolous nature of human civilization. Half of the world has a penis, might as well get used to it.

I think these two posts sum up my views on the movie! I really enjoyed it; Mrs Logic, not so much. I really like the book, but not to a crazed fan-boy level.

At the end of the day, it could have been SO much worse; ZS could have '300ed' it, and for that he would have to have been killed!
