Okay. I usually just lurk around here and post when I need dire help fixing whatever NI plug is fucking up music-making experience, but I think this time I can make an exception.

Every few weeks I find a thread on this board about how much so and so is a tool because their music is too wanker, or why what's his face isn't good any more because they turned into an makeup-wearing emo queen.

Now that every artist that inspired me to get into electronic music has been knocked, I'm pissed. Here's why: NONE of the reasons in these threads about why Trent Reznor, BT, and Daft Punk suck has much to do with their music. I see people pissed because two robots running a voyager and a bcr2000 put on a show that people really enjoy. I see people ranting about NIN being silly because a 40some year old man is screaming angrily into a mic with a fuckton of electronics in his studio. I see people whine about BT's music being too gimicky.

Before you throw that proverbial match onto the gasoline and start a flame war that's really tired, ask yourself: Do I like this music? Yes or no? Why or why not?
If the answer is no, and your reasons have nothing to do with the music, then shut the fuck up. STFU. Let me spell it out for you: SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Nobody is making you listen to any music you don't want to. If you wanna have a conversation about music, great, but if you wanna bitch about other stuff, don't do it on a music forum (okay, admittedly, I love an OT post just as much as the next person).

Sorry for the rant.

fair point mate.

as for NIN, BT and Daft Punk I think they're shit because their music is shit. BT is the worst of the lot with Daft Punk not far behind, at least trent made some good records.

if you would like a more in-depth explanation of what exactly i dont like about their music i'll happily oblige :)

@mdk: Feel free, but don't feel obligated. I would probably agree with a lot of the criticisms of any of these artists. In the case of Daft Punk and BT, I know (and have probably always known) that this music isn't exactly genius, or even innovative, but I don't care.

To paraphrase Claude Debussy: There are no rules, no theory; there is only what pleases. And to that end, perhaps we need a genre of Trentbash, or whatever people enjoy. Not my cup of tea, but I hope Trentbash is a hit!

Well, regardless of all the bs in this thread. Hating on any music is simply the refusal of listening to good music.

you completely contradicted yourself.

"none of the reasons are about music and all I read are reasons about music"
NIN fans aren't the smartest posters on the forum.

well, BT, really its his hair. Daft Punk, erm they're forrun. and if Trent actually felt like what he puts in his lyrics he would have killed himself some time ago, so he's a faker.

I do not understand why so many people hate or love Nine Inch Nails. They are another band like anyother band. In Vietnam we either like the band or dislike the band. Maybe we like and dislike for many other reasons.

Actually, NIN, Daft Punk, and BT's music isn't shit - you just think it's shit. That's your opinion and that's fine. They all, however, write excellent music whether you like it or not.

Nobody has the right, aside from the artist who wrote it, to say that one type of music or one band are shit. You can however, express that you feel their music isn't up to much.
