Yeah man! I loved that one also. Some cool stuff in this thread also and some movies I didn't see yet like REC.

I think you may be confusing the Roddy McDowel film 'The Legend of Hell House' 1973 with 'The Haunting' 1963. 'The Haunting' has a similar plot about an investigation of Hill House.

'The Haunting' is in black & white, is directed by Robert Wise, & is very scary! It involves a university professor bringing in two women, one who is an acknowledged psychic, the other having experienced odd psychical happenings in her youth, along with the house's young soon-to-be owner, to investigate Hill House. Things get out of control, to say the least!

Big love for 'Jacob's Ladder'. A truly frightening film.

Another creepy treat, is 'The Innocents' 1961. A psychological horror film based on the literary classic 'The Turn of The Screw by Henry James. Excellent black & white cinematography, with a creeping sense of dread.

Never seen the haunting but it's funny this is being mentioned has I was reading about it on IMDB today. There seems to be a recent version but I bet the old one is better.

The recent remake is an absolute travesty! Utterly stupid. Hollywood at its worst. Avoid at all costs, unless you want a rather lame laugh.

The original is rightly considered a masterpiece of the horror genre.

yeah it's old but still scary as fuck.

more recently I thought The Ruins was a pretty good take on the standard "bunch of kids get lost in the middle of nowhere and then...." scenario.

Spot on, I was getting them confused. I remember watching the haunting when I was quite young scared the shit out of me. The Catherine Zeta Jones version is pretty spooky as well, but lacks the atmosphere of the original.
