The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
yep, it can do 16th and i also find an amount of 30%-50% has a great feel.
btw, i love that you can change the swing in realtime while jamming, same goes for the tempo... yum.

Can you drag n drop sound clips from live to Maschine to be used as samples ?
Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
and you can even automate them.SubFunk wrote:btw, i love that you can change the swing in realtime while jamming, same goes for the tempo... yum.
Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
never tried it this way around... did not had any need nor interest this way, but i believe not.Parametex wrote:Can you drag n drop sound clips from live to Maschine to be used as samples ?
as far as i know you can only use sounds / samples that have been once appointed to maschine's library.
because of the workflow / handling maschine became my 'creator' and then i use the loops and patterns in live...

you cannot drag audio to maschine but you can route ableton tracks to maschine for realtime sampling.
imho maschine has a much more elegant interface for sample slicing than ableton, although ableton's slice-to-drum-racks is still a powerful tool, just not as quick and interactive as maschine.

Go into the group swing page, and you cannot get 1/16ths, you can get 3/16, 1/8, 1/4 etc but noooo 16th swing.
edit: I'll try it out when I can hear it at home, if it is indeed doing 16th swing wtf would they call it 8th? Does that mean you have to divide everything by 1/2 when using maschine? Is this some kind of mathematical bizarro world!?

A cycle of 1/4 = a cycle of 4/16*. The first 16th note of each cycle (1/16, 5/16, 9/16, 13/16) won't move when you apply swing.
When you choose cycle 6/16, then 1/16 won't move, 2/16 and 6/16 move a little, 3/16 and 5/16 move a little more, and 4/16 moves most. The next cycle starts at 7/16, so 7/16 won't move, 8/16 and 12/16 move a little, 9/16 and 11/16 move a little more, and 10/16 moves most. The next cycle starts at 13/16...
Maybe Maschine uses a slightly different wave form, but I think the swing is like this triangular wave:

Horizontal is time. Vertical is movement by applying swing.
0V = no move at 1/16, 7/16, 13/16.
2.0V = moves most at 4/16, 10/16.
(* Or 8/32 if you program 32nd notes. Or 16/64 if you program 64th notes. Etc.)

Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
Ok guys,
I'm pissed of I can't manage to use maschine, as a vst within live, to sequence my tetra...
I set a sound to "SRC=Midi out", channel 1
tetra in program mode, multimode off, basic channel = 1
plugged the midi ins and outs of tetra and maschine
I create a pattern with notes on this soud/pad
play live, maschine runs (other sounds are playing ok)
but NOTHING midi gets into the tetra...
I also tried to activate the maschine's controller midi port in live's prefs...
nothing, nothing, nothing....
Any help please?????
I love maschine, but setting up the ableton live + maschine + hardware synth combo begins to really piss me off... I tried +1000 setups, with IAC drivers (big latency), physical midi ports of the soundcard, physical ports of the maschine controller, using maschine-triggered midi clips within live...
NO WAY TO GET IT CLEAN AND USEFUL...
cheers

Mate have you checked Numerology + launchpad or some other hardware, to sequence your synths ? That looks great.

No I didn't, got maschine in january, and I really like the workflow, composing patterns, loading samples, sampling, etc is really cool from the hardware,Mate have you checked Numerology + launchpad or some other hardware, to sequence your synths ? That looks great.
I'm not really aiming at buying other stuff!!!!!
I'll try some more tweaks and setup manipulations, I won't give up so soon, I'm sure / I hope I'll find my way out with this gear, and I wanna keep using live as a great audiomidi console...
I just tried maschine standalone, and the midi out works, I can sequence the synth within maschine,
but in VST mode....
NO WAY???????
cheers

FRAKK
Maschine VST PHYSICAL MIDI OUT DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!
it just becomes an available midi port, but does not output maschine sequencer midi outs....

route the maschine midi out to another midi track that has an external instrument plugin on it and send that to your synth?

Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
Thanks Timoty, but that works for when you need only one midi channel (due to live's fault to "merge" all vst incoming midi data into one channel), but I need 4 midi channels for the tetra...

about the midi out, noticed that too.
I don't think there is any other solution in vst mode than using a maschine instance per synth.
That's why i made my template, unluckily for you it's made in live8.

this is Live's problem! not maschine!
