that grouped track can receive a dummy clip for automations of the group, that's a bit illogic it can't
and higly reduce the interest vs classic groups.

FL Studio is implementing something like this:

Cubase 5 has Variaudio, melodyne like editing and it's an awesome feature for those who don't have a pitch correction plugin/editor. One of C5's killer features.

That video made me remember how much I dislike FL Studio's GUI and that plugin is not as advanced as Variaudio. Still, FL Studio is a powerful program these days and the pricing is decent - if you like that sort of thing !

1) Option to swing clip launch quantization values according to the groove pool template the clip itself is quantized to

2) A real mixer page with channel strips

3) LIVE MIDI ON STAGE! - Some way to make live MIDI looping and synth overdubbing (different synths) possible without having fool Ableton with gnarly IAC bus routing. Shouldn't be so hard to say... play a bass line in Sylenth, overdub a lead in Zebra with your right hand while your left hand tweaks the filter cutoff on the Sylenth bass part... There are a LOT of keyboardists out there and as software sampling and synthesis has really taken off and doesn't look to be slowing down, Fantom/Triton/Motif workstations just aren't the kind of investment they used to be. Ableton can and should tap into that market by a) making it easy and attractive to switch from HW to SW on stage and b) making it easy to do a lot more on stage. I definitely think if Ableton actually took live MIDI seriously, they'd sell a good deal of v9's to people who weren't upgrading from 8.

4) Step sequencer and/or drum sequencer with velocities, notes, panning, duration (gating), etc in window. Seems like it would be pretty straightforward to tack on a sequencer to Sampler, maybe have a button on the UI that opens the sequencer in another window or something.

5) Bounce in place

6) Comprehensive MIDI control of the loop brace... no brainer?

7) Less awkward side-chaining with AU plugins

@POSSU yeah its an option BUT IMO : its not as quick as destructive editing and when you have more than hundreds files the process MUST be almost instantaneous to keep a good workflow .

Not sure if this has already been said but 33 pages of reading - sod that!

The ability to manipulate midi clips like we can the audio. ie: Transpose knob, Half time/Double time with one click.

if ableton would be wise they would make audio and midi clips in any regard ..with warp markers and everything..
together with the groups this would allow for editing groups that dont care wether midi or audio clips are involved..

that would be a huge step forward.. however.. they are not to visionary and rather engaged in including oldschool daw standards, arent they?

when slicing up a song to sample, It would be great to have the option to play each slice passed its end slice mark. There is an option in FL Studio when you have sliced something you can turn the "play to end" check box and all slices will continue to play through its selected slice area as long as you have your midi key pressed down. I would love to have that in the next Ableton!

There is more I want in 9, but this is what I can think up of currently!!!

This thread doesn't seem like a very good idea (in retrospect). Why don't we all use the dedicated wish list forum instead? That way every idea gets it's own thread with a unique title and the possibility of some constructive discussion.

alternately, you could have the OP compile everything we agree on in the opening POST..

who is we? some wishes here are serious stuff and there is certainly a tendency that certain things pop up more than others,,,

but the question is rather what kind of daw do you want to have? reading all the wishes one gets the idea that you actually would like it to become a tracker..

A Spectrum Editor or wave form display similar to that available in Wavelab http://www.steinberg.net/typo3temp/pics/19641c2985.png

Also, the ability to visualise in standard waveform or spectral waveform, in buss tracks, the resulting waveform of the combination of tracks combined in the bus. It would be also really useful to see the output in real time that effects have on the waveform rather than just the original audio which isn't very intuitive.

I hope this is clear but I think that these ways of visualising audio in DAWs will take a lot of the guess work out of audio production. It would really put Ableton ahead of the other DAWs. Other people are starting to work on this eg http://www.aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=15441 and http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2008/0201092.html
