1) Ableton Live CPU Meter 31%
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Custom Gigabyte Mboard
3) Operating System? XP SP3
4) Ableton Live version? 8.2
5) CPU Make, Model, and Speed? 2.5 Dual Core celeron
6) Amount of Ram? 2gb
7) Soundcard E-DSP DX
8) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)?
9) Number of playback tracks 8

got 29% with my E-MU 1616 turned on running as near to 512 samples as I could get it.

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter 12%
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Desktop PC Custom Built Sandybridge, Gigabyte MoBo P67A-UD4-B3
3) Operating System? Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1
4) Ableton Live version? 8.2.4 beta
5) CPU Make, Model, and Speed? Intel Core i7-2600 Quadcore @ 3.5 GHz (approx. stock speed), HT always off
6) Amount of Ram? 8 GB
7) Soundcard? RME HDSP 9632, driver 3.26 (latest)
8) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? System Drive: Intel Postville 80GB SSD. Data Drive: Samsung 1TB 7200 RPM
9) Number of playback tracks? 8

Remark:
I always leave the ASIO buffer at 128 samples for short latency of about 8 ms (round trip). Thus also for this test. Could be even lower.
I have to say that I never even came close to maxing this machine out. I can use Reaktor modules like Omega Synth or NI Massive Synthesizer at highest
quality and polyphony settings on as many tracks as I desire (although my projects are relatively small a.t.m. as I must still learn new things).
This rig seriously rocks ! :P

Strange, you should get two times better than that....i think something like 35% is perfectly doable on this kind of machine..So, maybe something wrong with CPU Speed stepping..??
You said that you run snow leopard ? in theory it's not possible to install Snow leopard on this machine....
so ??
i'm really curious about the performance of the new macbook air, so, if anybody else got something to say about it ??
Thanks :-)

I run Leopard from Lackeys steps on running it from an external drive.
But it has nothing to do with Live 8, I was just posting that I do hook up that external drive for grabbing my .WAV loops and copying them to the AIR. I just put that info just in case it is a culprit of some sort for Live testing at 65%.

1) 21%
2) 15 inch Macbook pro
3) OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
4) 8.2.2

80GB Intel SSD (OS) / 500Gb 7200RPM (Data)
9) 8 tracks

A bit odd, but with a buffer size of 512 samples, the CPU usage was extremely erratic - generally around 16% but would spike to 24/25% every once in a while. This test was done at 128 samples which is what I would usually have it as and it was stable at 21%, dipping to 20% quite a bit. Not in my studio, so this was done with the internal sound card. Will test on my MOTU 896HD to see if there is any difference when I get a chance.

1) 9%
2) Hackintosh Intel Sandy Bridge 3.4ghz i7 k2600 running at 4.4ghz
3) OS X 10.6.8
4) 8.2.2
5) 3.4ghz i7 k2600
6) 8GB 1600mz DDR3

8) 120 gig OCZ Vertex 3 (520mb read and write)
9) 8 tracks

Just built this for a friend, it smokes my April 2011 Macbook Pro 17" by 8%, for exactly half the price. Stunned. Going to have to build myself one.

Here's the other parts i used:

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131703

Graphics board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102873 (good one because with 10.6.8 the drivers for it are included, so no hacking involved to get the card running)

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145345

Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115070 (unlocked so it overclocks easily)

Power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817171037

DVD writer/reader that works with hackintosh: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827118039

Used andyboot cd and his patch for the Asus motherboard that makes network, bluetooth, and sound work. send me a PM and I can send you an easy guide on how I installed and got it all running etc. It's a pretty easy set up to use, so a really easy build.
