got 29% with my E-MU 1616 turned on running as near to 512 samples as I could get it.

Remark:
I always leave the ASIO buffer at 128 samples for short latency of about 8 ms (round trip). Thus also for this test. Could be even lower.
I have to say that I never even came close to maxing this machine out. I can use Reaktor modules like Omega Synth or NI Massive Synthesizer at highest
quality and polyphony settings on as many tracks as I desire (although my projects are relatively small a.t.m. as I must still learn new things).

Strange, you should get two times better than that....i think something like 35% is perfectly doable on this kind of machine..So, maybe something wrong with CPU Speed stepping..??
You said that you run snow leopard ? in theory it's not possible to install Snow leopard on this machine....
so ??
i'm really curious about the performance of the new macbook air, so, if anybody else got something to say about it ??

I run Leopard from Lackeys steps on running it from an external drive.
But it has nothing to do with Live 8, I was just posting that I do hook up that external drive for grabbing my .WAV loops and copying them to the AIR. I just put that info just in case it is a culprit of some sort for Live testing at 65%.

A bit odd, but with a buffer size of 512 samples, the CPU usage was extremely erratic - generally around 16% but would spike to 24/25% every once in a while. This test was done at 128 samples which is what I would usually have it as and it was stable at 21%, dipping to 20% quite a bit. Not in my studio, so this was done with the internal sound card. Will test on my MOTU 896HD to see if there is any difference when I get a chance.

Used andyboot cd and his patch for the Asus motherboard that makes network, bluetooth, and sound work. send me a PM and I can send you an easy guide on how I installed and got it all running etc. It's a pretty easy set up to use, so a really easy build.
