I am not arguing against this feature, but I bet that you will not see it in live.
Just like all the reason users on reason boards that begged and screamed for audio recording capabilites in reason for the last 3 years, it just isn't the direction they are heading with the software.
I dare any of you "dj's" that must have this feature to be able to use live in a live setting, to email ableton asking why this is not included and if they reply post your email and their reply on this very thread. I think you will find that they might suggest that if you want a mp3 dj app with realtime tempo control for each "virtual deck" that you should look elsewhere.
Live is a new tool and a new approach that is ushering in a new way to compose/improv/manipulate/play music in a live setting (it is not merely a virtual dj program).
If you have to live in the past, have fun, but I would think that any creative dj would have found a way by now to dig into what live can do and the flexibility it gives you with routing possibilites and would be working on a new way of approaching their sets that use live as the center and incorporate a table or two into live in real time.
But I am a complete lunatic right? I am just making all this up and acting like I know where ableton is heading with their software based on nothing ... wait a minute I swear the text on my box live 4 came in says
"Real-Time Music Production for Mac OS and Windows"
Maybe you are looking for
Traktor DJ that is the box that says

Look, you are obviously a very technically accomplished kinda guy - we know how much smarter you are than 90% of the people on the internet. You have proved that by now, and we bow down to you.
However:
Those of us morons who compose the rest of the teeming mass of humanity, are interested in a tempo correction feature for this software.
I know it's a simple primitive request. Yet we are simple, primitive peoples ... and have not reached your stage of technical evolutionary development.
Have mercy

well you have proved you are at least ignorant (I wouldn't say primitive) but you all refuse to post your obvious feature request in the appropriate forum on here, you know the one for feature requests.

Yeah. It's ignorant of us to assume that Ableton would want to add a feaure to make thier software:
a. more versatile
b. easier to work with
c. more marketable
d. more competitive with other similar applications
What were we thinking. And we were doing it in the wrong forum ta boot!! doh!

couldn't agree more
Well, I understand... I am not against these features - I've requested them myself in the feature request forum.
However, I was just pointing out that there are methods of doing what I thought people thought they couldn't do... If that makes sense.
But what gets my goat is when DJs don't think Live is easy enough to use in a performance situation. Damn. I mean, it's pretty straightforward, really. The workarounds aren't as complicated as they're made out to be.
I guess I just don't appreciate the diffuculty since I find it pretty easy. But I reiterate that I am not against implementation of better tempo control, or clip sliding, provided they don't detract from the stability and functionality of future versions of Live.

just yesterday I was explaining Live to a DJ friend of mine. He was ready to run out and buy the software, until i explained that there is no 'pitch' (ie playback speed per track) option, which dampned things a bit.
this is probably costing ableton a lot of dj crossover dudes.

got it in v5. it works very well, and it lets you accomplish things that were not possible by manipulating clip transport...

for the global nudging, tempo control, transport control (except for brake) the Roland MC-909 works JUST like a CD DJ deck- pitch slider (with adjustable range), BPM readout, tap tempo button, +/- nudge buttons.

Choking in the smug of certain peeps in this thread.
I'm currently working on a way of altering individual clip tempo using my griffin powermate and I'm almost there.
the workaround is instead of trying to remotely control the tempo, you remotely control the position of the warp markers. THe main problem I'm having is that you can only seem to move the position of a 'pinned' warp marker which works as a tempo correction but it just alters the position of playback so you ahve to keep rotating the powermate at a set speed to get the bastard to stay in time.
I know there has to be a work around in the variation of which pinned markers are being moved. IM GETTING SO SODDING CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But no cigar
I'll keep updating this if anyone is intersted.

What's wrong with using the nudge feature in the clip settings with quantize set to None?

I've been using decks and a mixer again, for a couple years now.
It looked like they were really going to pay attention to rewarding physical mastery for awhile, but then Live kind of went the "add a zillion more options" direction instead.

??? I don't really get it. I feel pretty physically challenged when trying to coordinate several channels of audio with their respective effects, a channel of loops, I could throw in a couple midi instruments but honestly I am already at the limit of what I can coordinate live. (Maybe I am just a klutz?) I DJed w/ vinyl for 8 years, I love it, but the fact that Live takes care of the beatmatching frees my hands up for so much more.
I am just curious - why is the clip nudge feature not a satisfactory "way of altering individual clip tempo"? (BTW nobody is happier than me that Live finally added the global nudge/brake feature!)

Hey man. I don't now what would be wrong with the nude feature as its never occurred to me to try it!
Also, what do you mean about the global nudge/brake feature? could you elaborate pls. I've only just started to get to grips with Live 7 so am a little clueless

Well, up at the top left of the screen next to the tempo there are two new little buttons with vertical lines on them. One of those buttons is 'nudge' and the other is 'brake'. They are not velocity sensitive, but they work pretty well.
And the clip nudge feature has been around forever AFAIK, the only limitation is that you have to set quantize to none to get a scrub effect. Also, to map the clip nudge to a knob you must go into midi map mode and you'll see a new button appear in between the clip nudge arrows...it is here that you map your knob.
