Geez, how hard can it be to have one ball and a sense of humor on the internets?

People take things way too personally sometimes.
Think of Tone as a really smart, like 150+ IQ, 10 year old, and his rants make more sense. Double the IQ and half the age for b0unce, I would be the token not so smart 80 year old that thinks they know something.

ive never had any abuse from anyone and have posted some extreme noob questions and will do so in the future - only time a thread started to go the wrong way was when Tone misunderstood the subject of a thread and for a while it started to go into something not very constructive to which the easy solution was to ask for the line of conversation in the thread to be closed and ask other members to contribute to the original thread question.

me and Tone soon realized that we have misunderstood each other and a couple of polite PM's sorted out it very quick and Tone made some cool contributions

personally if someone wants to take the piss out of my noob questions then i dont care - if it is a bit of humour i can take it .. if it is someone being offensive i have the choice to either get sucked into an argument or to ask them to stop contributing to the thread...and if they continue to contribute then i would skip the passage, read the contributions from other forum members ..

maybe one idea is to have the choice in profile preferences to block certain members from contributing to your threads and therefore you can communicate with people who you do have a good forum relationship with and then only have yourself to "blame" if the people that you have had conflict with, have the answer to your thread question and cannot contribute to your thread.

Could you actually be confident in recommending a new Ableton user to get involved on here...without pre-warning them?? I think not.

You know...i couldnt care any more, i really dont know why i bothered even typing this actually.

And just for the record. I think v8 is AMAZING and will be perfect with a few bug fixes. Just a pity the forum is an untidy mess where u get a load of abuse.

This forum is pretty pathetic really - there are some good tips, but generally, it seems to be a place for 15-year-olds to hang out and abuse eachother.

Its a bit like the corner outside my office where the local school kids congregate to shout at people, spit, smoke, vandalize trees etc.

I'm against censorship, but I'm FOR focused, productive, subject-specific online communities. Its not about censorship (or how thick your skin is) - its about RELEVANCE.

I've been using Ableton since v4 but I've only just started posting. Before that I just used to browse for tips or updates on gear (I don't think I've ever had a problem that hasn't already been answered). On the other hand some members post constantly and seem to use it like their local (pub for our international members ) , and as such talk to forum users like they would their mates.

Personally I think banter makes the world go round, but it can be difficult to tell whether it's serious or just a bit of fun when you can't tell tone of voice or aren't used to someone's writing style.

It can get a bit tedious when a thread veers massively from topic, but then again these can also turn into the most entertaining threads.

All in all the wealth of knowledge shared on the forum far exceeds the mindless shit slinging!

i have always learnt a lot from people on this forum and i think that after a while you get to recognizesome names and can share some humour which i think is necessary - personally it would drive me nuts if this was restricted to a super serious forum - it just depends on your sense of humour i guess if you find it pathetic or not

i find i cannot vote on the poll cos i think it is ok to take the piss with people you know but agree that making people feeling uncomfortable is not great as im sure it discourages some people to ask noob questions - but still i hold my point that you can either ask them to stop contributing to the thread or just dont read it and focus on the answers from other people on the thread you have posted ...

i guess that's cos i have a "thicker skin" than some people on the forum but also accept that we all have different characters and sensitivities and do not disagree either with people who are less "thick skinned" and who dont like it getting such type of replies

the option of blocking people in personal preferences so you can choose who contributes to your threads is my suggestion

also i have to admit i would like to see a index just for off topic conversations - lots of OT subjects and abe subjects in the abe general index - i know you can ignore the OT subjects if you want but it would mean a few less pages to scroll through when you are looking for something if there was a an OT section on the index

agree with both - sms and emails are so easily misunderstood as you cant see person's expression or tone of voice
