Live users and Maschine - an observation

So I've had it for about a week now, and it's definitely meeting my expectations. I really only have one small complaint - There are no preset multi-sampled drum hits for individual pads. All just single samples. Some kits have multi-sampled hits which you can extract, but no multi-hits saved as "sounds" in the factory bank. No big deal though. There will eventually be battery import which will add so much anyways. The library is pretty great though and the workflow is so much fun. Aside from maybe the padkontrol I've never felt pads that I've enjoyed playing so much. The note repeat function is really well implemented also and a fun way of layering parts.

Haven't got into the swing too much, but there is global swing as well as per group. Not sure yet if there is per sound swing. Maybe there is a destructive swing quantize on the pattern for each part, not sure yet. Will check later.

Has anyone managed to make note repeat work for Ableton's Drum Rack?? Is there a midi command that I can assign in the controller editor?

If live would only implement some kind of Roland tr* step sequencer recording coupled to drumracks, we would not need a Maschine.
If you could use the 16 drum-pads on a controller to represent a 1 measure bar and use the pads to toggle the notes on and off while running, it would satisfy most users I guess. I hope they will make something like that available later in the year (based on max) free or cheap.
I really hate drawing notes with a mouse and live drumming is not something that can always replace a sequencer.

So it seems NI is making good, the upcoming 1.1 update is adding almost everything that's been asked for!

I'd still like to see drag&drop sample import from a daw track...but otherwise, it's looking good IMO:

you can't do it. the note repeat function is part of the maschine software, not a physical function of the controller.
the note repeat button becomes just another button in midi control mode.

there may be a way of duplicating this function with the beat repeat plugin in live, and assigning its on/off button to the controller though.

That question is actually the point of this thread!

Let's not get hung up on wording; my observation was that on NI's Maschine forum, most of the people on the forum were Live users, by far. That's all. I was wondering why that was, since Live basically does everything Maschine does already...

I think this update really establishes Maschine as a serious tool. Up till now things like no midi out, no Rex support, limited slicing sizes etc. really made Maschine seem incomplete...or at least, not living up to its potential. After this update that will no longer be the case IMO.

I get tired of staring at a Computer all day at work then all night at home! I rather enjoy just using the controller. You can just fire it up and go! This might be hard for people who just click a mouse and write a pattern because they usually don't have any rhythm!

Exactly, me too. I look at a computer all day. I try not to when I'm playing music. Maschine was probably one of the best, if not the best, gear purchase I've made, in terms of computer based music anyways. And with the coming 1.1 update, it'll be even better, especially in terms of DAW integration.
