yet people are still reporting bugs, some that were even there during the beta.

ive have been lucky sofar, although lately my live 8 has been getting more and more buggy and ims tarting to experience live 8 as buginfested as it is beeing reported.

I can still crash Live 7.0.15 if I try really hard. Even my ps3 crashes consistently. Lately Mail has been crashing all the time too.

As I've recently learned while doing a new website: A software package can contain an obvious bug for months after its release. So obvious that everybody thinks "this is so obvious, somebody must have reported it".
Yet when dealing with smaller developers, all it usually takes is sending them a detailed report to get it fixed within the week. So my little mail actually improved a website module with a twitter feature that everybody requested. But nobody actually used it, so they didn't notice the button didn't actually work. Too obvious!

I've been over this conversation recently. When asked to name a piece of software that is released without bugs. People cite "Reason". (Just because the props delayed a few versions / ie. didn't meet their deadline)
But I call bullshit on that statement, because I was a tester for propellerheads too.
Bugs reported months after the 2.5 beta didn't get resolved till Reason 3.

So now you're complaining that Ableton spent the time after the release getting even more bugs resolved? What if they didn't release it for another month of testing and still some of the 8.0.1 bugs remained undiscovered?

Not having a go at you Friend_Kami, but you do have to consider this point of view. Some bugs don't get discovered until somebody really gets pissed off about them. Then when it comes up in a conversation, people with this problem seem to come from everywhere. That is strange. I didn't see half of the energy put into reporting as is put into ranting.

not sure if this is a valid answer, since there will still be bugs slipping through the beta to release status change. well reported bugs.

I personally like the latest version A LOT (not only because of the async mouse mode), though I am really concered that sometimes when I double click an element, usually a clip, Live just crashes. This did not happen in 7.x . The problem with this kind of bugs is that it is hard to report them since they occur almost at random, and reporting a "doubleclicked a clip and live crashed" is like...

that's why there is the Bug Report recorder.. just send the crash log after Live crashes..

well, i bought the retail version. 8.0. i upgraded to 8.0.1, crash crash crash. unstable. i saw there was a beta release after 8.0.1, so i install it thinking it will fix AT LEAST the instability issues...no. still a worthless piece of software.

can i downgrade to a stable version, like 7 with the key i purchased for 8? i really need to be able to start using this without having to press the save key every 2 minutes.

I take it you mean me hoffman.

I was actually very impressed when the Propellerheads postponed their release. To say they "didn't meet their headline" is to view things from the wrong angle. They could quite easily have gone ahead with the release on time and happily received money for it but they stood by their principals and delayed. It was clearly a move that favoured the customer over the company.

I don't want to get into a slanging match like the other thread ended up being but I really wasn't impressed with Ableton's decision to go ahead with a software release knowing it was crashing a lot of computers.

It's been suggested that they released early in order to make a trade show, whioh is probably quite true. In the light of day, i'd say that's lost them some kudos. No doubt they will sort things out but with some users having reverted to L7 and the shorter than necessary beta period, it will doubtless take a lot longer to stabilise than it could otherwise have done.

And as for your views on Reason....

You can call it bullshit by all means but it's also called bravery. At least the bugs that remained didn't render it useless.

I personally think Kami is right to say something, he is upset that he's paid for software that crashes his projects. Nobody is saying it's got to be 100% bug free on release but if he can't use it, it's no good.

Even with the 14 day free trial, it can take years to understand this program, so I doubt many new users encounter half the bugs that a more experienced person would.
