Well first my singer who came all the way from the States to record with me (we did a record together about ten years ago, found her back on MySpace beginning of this year!) she's got the most incredible sultry phat voice and makes my Behringer desk sound like an SSL, :D but I figured that I needed a better pre-amp and converters anyway, and this is the best I can afford. Maybe she'll make my "Mindprint" channel strip sound like a Vintage Neve... The USB AD/DA used to be a seperate option and a couple of years back it was a grand (Euro) now it's about half that. Sweatshop free: Made in Germany!

But yeah, since it does line in also the rest of the outboard stuff will probably get recorded through it from now on. Happy daze!

The APC never appealed to me. I ended up getting:

Dudes at GC don't understand the concept of "drivers" so they thought it was broken and I got it for $50.

And a:

Love the Micro Modular. It took a bit of doing before I could get it to do anything good, but now that I have a few building blocks for my patches, I'm just in heaven with it.

And I'm still trying to figure out Operator since I got the suite this past April anyway. I don't have time to figure out any other new gear.

Maschine...it can do the clip stuff and give me an awesome beat machine. I'm quite tempted my a monome though. It's ridiculous how monome are very high quality, hand build in the USA units and cost around the same as a plastic APC "possibly assembled by refugees".

Does anyone else think ableton were just pulling a stunt announcing max4live with ableton 8 to boost versions 8's sales..but really planning to release it around the time of ableton 9? 2 strategic sales boosts by announcing the same product twice.

what's the fascination with the monome? it's just a bunch of buttons that can cost up to $1400. it doesn't do anything on it's own.. it's not even pre-programmed to do anything. you have to set the whole thing up by yourself. the program GUIs look like shit. the monome box looks like shit. it's a computer geeks idea of a musical instrument that doesn't make a sound. the amount of control you have is Atari-esque at best. at least Atari had a knob. so basically you paid anywhere from $500 to $1400 for a wood box with rubber buttons and a couple of plastic boards that probably only cost about $50 to be printed and maybe another $50 to be assembled. do you really care if it's assembled in some shack in the Catskill mountains? the way i see it is that all of you are just Deadmau5 wanna-bes!!!
each is a reconfigurable grid of backlit keypads which connects to a computer. interaction between the keys and lights is determined by the application running on the computer. there is no hard-wired functionality.

teh hate!!

you can stick an knob on a monome, you can stick two on there, you can put two IR sensors on them, you can stick a tilt sensor on them you could probably even stick your mom on a monome. it's open source hardware and software, you can do whatever you want, THAT'S that fascination.

yes, there are tons of monome posers out there, it can be weird. check out this chick's tattoo, no she doesn't own a monome.

she had to get the 256, you'd never see a 40h on that arm.

monoMEH RIGHT GUYS?

Actually I don't know what it is, and every time I go looking for monome videos I just see a bunch of twee bullshit and a lightshow. I'm open to whatever if anyone wants to link some cool monome uses.
