OK. I'll stop. Nobody likes where this is going.
Berlin clubbing - WTF !?!?

i was pulling your leg, you thick man. so it is true?, germans do not have humor... oh well...monohusche wrote:SubFunk wrote:to me london is the most diverse music scene on the planet and by far the most professional.
and i am sure you are not with "spree wasser getauft" or am i wrong?
right, so one has to be 40 and being born in Berlin to have an opinion, is that what you're saying ? not a very open-minded approach.... you might have the thread all for yourself in that case.
I am not saying that Berlin is more diverse/better/professional than London or NY, but I think no one will argue that in terms of bookings and musical choices, it's high up there. and for me, that's the main point. If nobody would come here in the first place, I wouldn't have to think about whether the venue is shit or not. Berlin is not just Berghain and Bar25, the same way as London is not just Fabric or matter.
Regarding drugs, "hip" people, arrogance and money making - do you really think this is just happening here ? seems as if people are regretting that the "good old times, back then" aren't here anymore. but that's the way it goes...1994 won't come back. and by the way, Tresor back then was of course totally drug-free...come on guys.
anyway, the discussion reminds of those endless rants of underground vs. commercialism bla bla which I am getting quite sick of.
but the true bit is, you apparently live here and don't even get 'natives' i mean 'berliner schnauze'.... oh well... again.
so now you know, why i don't like you guys

maybe I didn't get it cause it wasn't funny....with you talking so much about "germans from some rotten villages", not sure where the fun is anyway.
also not sure how we got from discussing Berlin club culture to you not liking "us guys", so I better stop here before your humour gets worse

To the OP: that's harsh, bad luck. Next time though a bit of advance internet research may help you out. Somewhere like (e.g.) Golden Gate may not have the 'hip' factor, the physical size or the big-name DJ's, but there are also no arseholes working the door, the crowd is really friendly, and they sell better and cheaper beer.
I only went to Berghain once and it was not that great (although I did turn up alone and sober at 1400 on the Sunday of a bank holiday weekend........) and I would agree that the sound system is not that amazing either. I only stayed for an hour and then went to Bar 25, got straight in with no hassle and had an amazing day.
I really wanted to try Berghain again though, see if it lived up to the hype, so a couple of weeks later I went again. This time there were 4 of us - a straight guy, two gay guys and a girl, all sober. Me and one of the other lads got let in, but they (ie, Sven) wouldn't let the other guy and the girl in and were really rude to them when they asked why they'd been rejected. I went back alone about 4 hours later and another bouncer rejected me because he said I'd already been turned away that night! I explained (in German) what had actually happened and he just looked at me and told me that I still wasn't coming in.
The really annoying thing about this is that the bouncers think they are fucking tough guys standing there off their faces on drugs being rude to loads of E-d up tourist ravers every weekend. Transplant them and their attitudes to any club in Manchester or London and see how long they last.............

+1 for Golden Gate, excellent club, especially thursdays. Not to be confused with Watergate! BTW, berliners are rude, its not just the bouncers. But since everybody is rude, there is nothing special about the rudeness, so the rudeness isnt rude anymore, I guess its a bit like New York that way.

i never used to manage to go out on my own, which i did a hell lot, without not meeting and chatting, having fun with all sorts of people... i mean that apart from the music was one of the great things about a club opposed to the 80s type discos... now, i have evenings you hardly can talk to anyone, without people turning away from you and thinking / looking at you like you are some strange weirdo... WTF?
or am i getting to old for clubbing...? hell i don't want to stop that ever... it's part of my life like breathing fresh air.
i've been clubbing for 25 years on the gay and straight scenes, i lived in london for a decade up to 2007, and there was always enough choice in clubs to be able to choose which places had a good vibe and which places were not worth bothering with. now in london and especially in spain the 'loved up' factor is getting like a distant memory as attitudes, and i guess the drugs, are changing. i live in a small city now and the drug of choice is coke - i'm just fucking amazed to see dancefloors full of people only standing around chatting to their mates, just about ignoring the music and blanking anyone who dares to have a smile on their face... just tragic. in london now there's a generation taking pills which are just bzp and caffeine rather than mdma and speed, no wonder...
and i'm not judging attitudes towards me as an older clubber but more the general atmosphere between people in the clubs, there were always crap places with a bad vibe, but i'm seeing less and less nights where people can enjoy a genuinely free and liberated clubbing atmosphere. i still go out, and still find good places even if they're only good for 6 months, they're just getting harder to find.
shame, but at least i got my memories, for a while yet i hope lol..

+1, the "Berliner Schnauze" is an extremely rude and somewhat an aggressive way of talking... people should now that from me... it even makes it's way into my englishGrappadura wrote:+1 for Golden Gate, excellent club, especially thursdays. so yeah, very difficult to grab for most, as you can see even for some germans on here that are from elsewhere in the country...!!!
for the foreigners, the expression "Berliner Schnauze" defines a genuine way of talking typical for Born Berliners.
sad thing, though... is that it's dying out.
thanks to all the people who try to clean us up, to not just being actually super nice but also talking nice. urrghhh.

Re: Berlin clubbing - WTF !?!?
i love Berlins scene, i love its clubs and i love its sound
London is a interesting and musically inspiring city aswell, but god the scene (straight techno) there sucks so hard...and talking about the "scene" in other european citys, the only place that i really like besides Berlin is Barcelona - the rest, or lets say the citys i visited for partying (Paris,Prague,Vienna,Rom & Amsterdam) are just plain awful.
But ok, i guess you can get sick of anything...
oh and btw i will be moving to berlin for personal reasons in early 2010 - 5 years in bavaria where enough for me, totally sick of it... so here comes another "omg i going to Berlin"-wannabe hipster for you to hate on

Don't panic, the Senate of Berlin knows about the problem and already started a campaign to re-socialize and explain "berlin mouths" like subfunk and other authentic Berliners internationally... ;-)
Esp. berlin cab drivers are the most hated species in europe.
http://www.be.berlin.de/en/campaign/herz-schnauze/
Next time you crash into those bouncers, tell them you came because of this campaign.
At least the laughter after being rejected will be on your side.
Cheers,
Dom
