Greed is irrelevant IMO in that it is personal. The potential in Barter is that the concept of 'value' can go different places. The idea of a market value for an item is far more liquid when trading on the basis of need. One man junk is another mans treasure.

In a barter type situation, what happens to the people that develop some kind of long term illness, get old, or become immobile or disabled in some way?

well it could be like what they do in japan already. You volunteer hours when your young to working with the elderly and they keep track for you so that when your older your entitled to how ever many hours you gave. It encourages to stay healthy and everyone wins in theory.

One thing I do know is nursing homes are not where I want my family, and your job's not waiting around. Our labor system is not up to my standards here.

there is still room for insurance pools. but basically I trust people will help each other more, because of the personal relation they establish.

also, this virtual currency doesnt lose its value. so it is much more reliable as an insurance.

I mean, today you can swap houses with people from all over the world with no middlemen or costs involved. Why shouldn't you be able to swap other goods.)
