Pulse demon is a great album! Haven't heard much of the newer stuff. Merzbow really pushed the envelope for me.

The only other album I've heard is Dharma, which is a bit 'softer' for Merzbow. Pretty good, but if I'm listening to Merzbow I usually want the extreme stuff.

Glenn Branca has some interesting (if quite pretentious) guitar 'symphonies' that are extremely dense with lots of microtonal clusters. Worth checking out, esp Symphonies 6 %10.

Merzbow reminds me a bit of an electronic Penderecki....like hydrochloric acid for the ears!

If you want hardcore noise, check out Physical Evidence from NON. Boyd rice pretty much invented the noise genre and pre- misanthropic spoken word records, was pretty crazy. A release in 77 had 5 holes, none in the center!

Thanks for the tip on Glen Branca, always wanted to grab one of his records, but didn't want the boring one etc.
Most experimental artists are hit and miss on recordings I think.

I'm just happy that people are interested in music that isn't cool or mainstream for once! Real nice change from the usual ignoring any conversation about Black Metal or other silly/fun/dark noise music. 8)

Completely left field but my latest obsession has been The Cloaks, Merzbow does Dubstep!

Also Hecate! You have to love a pretty girl who does breakcore black metal DJ sets!

Oooh, thanks for the new music interests!

Supersilent vs Motorpsycho - nice dark ambient, but a bit static for my taste. I have been slowly getting into Jaga Jazzist...such a great mix of jazz and electronic, both done quite well.
Cloaks - industrial disinfectant for my ears! Nice to hear such sludge for a change after too much clean electronics!

Hecate - Wow that is hot! Really digging this. Love the diversity of styles, all dark. Those drones are quite excellent!

How about this metal by John Zorn...

:D

It's sloppy, he should do more!

I love Zorn. Really fond of moonchild. I saw them here a couple years ago as a part of earshot jazz fest. IT was so funny to watch all the old squares up an leave after seeing that choas and Patton spitting on the stage and tangling himself up in the mic cables. And Bill Frisell was in attendance too.

@slatepipe,
TOTAL agreement. Cloaks is definitely my pick of the year, it's noisy, but nicely controlled with a groove.
Sounds like huge tube amps being abused with cheap basses played through them to a dubstep shuffle. 8)

christ. i woke up on the lounge floor at 5am this morning with a merzbow record still clicking in its runoff groove. my first thought was 'shit! what did i buy?'. went and checked my email and there was a receipt for a cloaks 12"

must be the booze fairies that made me do it

Hecate

She has also worked with prolific electronic artist Venetian Snares, creating the controversial album Nymphomatriarch made entirely out of recordings of herself and Venetian Snares having sex on their two-week tour in 2003.
