So yea, tell Sony I might take it...have to think about it a bit....see if they can get Richard D. James on board first.

Sony said that the interwebz is really hurting their music dept these days, not like in the 90's when Rage was huge. So they want to know if you'll do it for 10 free CDs instead??

You know, you should think about the bold part of your quote above...
Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor... He is praised for this.
I'm not in anyway saying that RATM are Robin Hoods, but they are getting paid with establishment's money to bitch about establishment...

Sign me up for that job!

"Okay Mr. H20nly we're going to give you $X00,000.00 (or more) to hate on us. Can you handle the job? Hmmmm... Okay, what if we throw in free rides and meals too? Great! Sign here"

yeah I think it would be a significantly different story if it were big oil or say some military industrial types signing their checks. But sony, who'd they ever hurt.

Ok, I'll do it, but I'm making an entire album about pirating music with lyrics detailing how to start a torrent and connect to P2P sites!

Some of those that make music
are the same that make torrents
Some of those that make music
are the same that make torrents
Some of those that make music
are the same that make torrents
Some of those that make music
are the same that make torrents

Pirate in the name of!

And now you download my torrent!
And now you download my torrent!
And now you download my torrent!
And now you download my torrent!

Those who buy
Are living the lie
For paying the price, i'm giving them lice
You justify
Those who buy
By paying the price, I'm giving them lice

Fuck you I won't pay for your music!
Fuck you I won't pay for your music!
Fuck you I won't pay for your music!
Fuck you I won't pay for your music!

lol

My next song will be "Ode to Our Corporate Masters"

Hahaha, fuck that. I'm really thinking I'm going to just release my music for free on my own site. Don't know how to get anyone to notice though, but I fucking hate sending music out to labels hoping to get the response I want, and for what? some tiny bit of money? I'd rather give it away and not have any pressures on the music at all. But how to get anyone to notice it?

ethios4 wrote:When I saw Rage in Greece in 2001 they had the whole crowd chanting Death to the US. Considering that when I flew into Athens there were posters that read "Kill Americans" and there was a large protest, I didn't feel too comfortable with anyone at the concert knowing I was American. I had also had a stupid confrontation with a guy where we were having a perfectly fine conversation until he found out I was from the US and not the UK and suddenly he wanted to fight me right then and there. So basically Rage got the whole crowd worked up and violent, then after the show there were molotovs, burning cars and buildings, tear gas, and riot police beating the shit out of people. It didn't seem very productive to me....just got a bunch of people worked up into an unthinking frenzy, which is pretty much the opposite of what should be happening, IMO.

I love Rage, and their first album taught me a lot when it came out, but there is a lot to criticize in their approach too. And yes, I do think it is hypocritical to "use the system" to "fight the system", ie they are cooperating with and funding capitalist organizations with their anti-capitalist crap. If they really meant it they would be self-producing and giving it away, or something along those lines. Instead they are conceding the supremacy of capitalism through their actions, while singing the opposite tune in their songs.
I don't know if it's hypocritical, RATM to me always seemed about getting 'the message' out there because they themselves can't change the world and why not use corporate money to do that?
The whole thing about about them being on a major seems to be people trying to appear clever and often missing the point. The whole punk/independent thing in the UK was actually triggered by a 'manufactured' band on a major. The majority of 'terrorism' within any country is carried out by it's own nationals, but people from the other end of the world. If you want to destroy something, do it from the inside.

That gig sounded like an average night out in the UK.

didn't get the track because both of them go to the same pocket

but it is cool to see rage up there (and they will do a free gig in london, so....)

not really rebellious though
