son of a bitch. My Fireface 800 keeps giving me a ton of grief. RME are really dropping the ball with their Mac drivers.

Seriously losing my patience here, and seriously considering switching to something else if this bullcrap persists.

have you tried other/older drivers and firmware?

the older drivers were very unreliable with Snow Leopard. The new drivers were supposed to address this... but aren't really helping much.

Anyways I noticed they put up a new update a few days ago. I'll install and HOPE that the situation improves.

i'm choosing between a motu ultralite hybrid mk3 and an used rme uc, that would cost me less than the motu
but it is still a difficult choice...

Yes RME over most other sound cards

they still upgrade my drivers after 5 years, not many companies do this anymore

rock solid and low latency

Nice old thread...

Personally, I would choose the RME. It's certainly not a perfect interface... no bus power, no dedicated headphone volume control, no dedicated gain knobs. I'm not crazy about Total Mix. But, if you listened to them side by side, the RME would likely sound better. That wins in my book. The thing sounds great.

RME : Great sound,
but shitty drivers, i don't like total mix, lots of bugs and reboots needed. Some days i simply can't make it work.

Sad to hear it, totally stable over here on Windows, it just works!

RME of course.. unless there's a budget issue..
keep in mind that they're considered a very high end devices..
and you don't necessarily need one.
point being ... MOTU is plenty good for most of us
but the RME drivers..reliability and conversion are top-notch

that's bad, i've never encountered those problems with RME drivers.

TotalMix is a weird one. the interface is horrible, but the routing options are very very flexible.

are you really still running OS X 10.6.3?

I've got an RME UCX, on Windows, been using it for a couple of years, it's great. Stable as hell, extreme low latency, sounds great, and I don't know why people are burned on Total Mix, it's pretty easy to navigate.

i think the GUI is a clusterfuck, it's just very unintuitive. having the Matrix and Mixer windows open together helps a lot though.

My mark 1 Ultralite has served me v well over the years, drivers been great on OS X and the sound quality has been good enough for a mere mortal like me.
